Could anyone tell me what the if there is any meaning to the graffiti seen in city 17-the most common consisting of a mother and child( i suppose) and also one of a strnge looking contraption like an automobile part -is it the gravity gun ?
i take it that the egghead on the posters is dr breen.

The mother wearing a gasmask and holding a child represents the supression field that the Combine use to stop humans reproducing. The egghead is, in fact, Breen.

There's another one with an ape, a human, and an overwatch soldier. That one was put by the Combine, and portrays them as the next step in human evolution.

Now that I think of it, the one with the hand reaching upwards could show that religion still tries to break free.

In any case, I thought the graffiti was beautiful, and used different sorts for my wallpaper (for a time).

and what about the other one-do you guys need a screenshot?

you mean that one with the "car part" ? Yes a screen shot would be helpful, cause I don't really know which one you mean.

Is this the one you are talking about?

That's the supression field one. I'm not sure which the "car part" one is.

My personal favourite is the Gman one with the umbrella.

Could the “automobile part” he's talking about be the Combine emblem?

no , thats not it .i'll post a screen shot asap- come to think of it, doesnt even look like a car part, more like a truck part. it looks very similar to he gravity gun.

this is what i meant. will get yu a better screen shot later

I know. It should be darkness! (I cannot see anything)

There are a number of neat bits of graffiti that make me wonder particularly the grim guy with an umbrella in rain and the thumbprint with the lambda symbol in the center. The car part is pretty strange too.

A gasmasked guy holding a baby. IMO, the gasmask represts the Combine and the baby Humans. It means the Combine think of humans as an 'infant species'.

It's just wierd how high quality those spray painted images are...

The graffiti I've seen on walls is pretty high res :p

while the resistance members were suppressed, they toiled day and night working on high resolution graffitti to decorate the walls.. after all that, they looked for freeman.. that's why it took 10 years to find him.

I don't find the high quality of the graffiti very surprising. I've seen some pretty impressive pieces of graffiti out there. It's a pitty it's graffiti and that the "artist" can't turn it to something more productive in some cases.

looks like the gauss gun in HL1 and that same gauss gun is mounted on your buggy, could it be the Gauss?

Holy crap so thats the same gun from half life 1!!!
Never got that till now. Silly me.

Tau cannon, gauss gun(same), Remember the charge, the sound...anyway it looks different so dont blame yourself

thats got me thinking im going to get all the sprays now

The "car-part" which you are talking about, is infact a car part; It's 2 rotors from the inside of the.. (don't laugh) Wankel rotary engine. Although this is a very rare engine, and is only used in the Mazda RX series.

Taiko... i know you are Jap or ur name is just pretending anyways i believe you but doesnt it look like the Gauss gun front more than the motor, Cuz theres no Mazdas or Lexus or Mitsubishi Or BMW or Toyotas in HL2

There is also no Gauss gun in HL2.
It does a have a resemblance to the Gauss gun, so I can see what your saying.
I don't work with cars, but I do know a fair bit about them. Sports cars and racing is my hobby. If anyone cares, thisshows you how the engine works.
(and yes, I do know there is a Gauss gun attached to the buggy) :upstare:

There is. That's just the complete version of it, because the one in HL was only a prototype weapon.

It is in fact the internal rotor assembly from a two rotor Wankel engine. The triangular shaped pieces are the two rotors, they are connected to the eccentric shaft that runs through their centers (similar to a crank-shaft on a piston engine). The shapes on the faces of the rotors are the impressions that form the combustion chamber when they are pressed against the engine housing during rotation. There must be a rotary engine enthusiast on the Valve staff somewhere. Ironic because rotary engines do not have intake and exhaust "valves" like a piston engine, they have non moving "ports"!

I did a triple take when I saw this in-game, as I own a rotary engine car, and it's definitely not something you would ever expect to see in the Half-Life universe!

I know nothing about cars and I knew that was a rotary engine when I first saw it, for some reason.

I've been heavily considering getting the evolution graffiti tattooed on my arm for some time now...

All these years later and finally a motor engine enthusiast joined the forums and discovered this thread. This stuff usually only happens in films.

Do eet. Thats the perfect tattoo because it manages to get an idea across yet not look cheesy. On second thoughts the perfect tattoo would be the incredible hulk decapitating godzilla then using his head as a battering ram to ram his way through the doors to a pirate castle.

*snip*

There's another one with an ape, a human, and an overwatch soldier. That one was put by the Combine, and portrays them as the next step in human evolution.

theres no way that was put there by the combine, its much more likely a resistance members critisism of the route that human evolution WILL take if the combine are not resisted against.

You can see SUR13 sprayed often among graffiti in HL2, this is a southwestern hispanic gang.

besides the created ones like caste, most of it is obviously just real world graffiti they imported into the game.

i wonder if i can find the grafiti in the game files and in some kind of way convert them to png formats. because i would really like to see high resulotions of the graffiti

I thought that looked kind of like a pair of Wankel rotors, but I dont know exactly what tehy look like, just that they were triangularish, but if you guys can spot the reliefs in the rotors well enough to positively identify it then that's awesome.

I think my exact thoughts were "wow, that looks like it might be some wankel rotors... but why would that be in half life ? Must be something more obvious..." ....

Cool to find out my speculation was on the right track!
