With all of this talk about whether HL2 will suck or not when it comes out (I'm pretty sure it won't), I'd like people to remember another, wonderful game...

Deus Ex. Wow, the Eidos forums were buzzing, and the PCGamer previews of DX:IW as wonderful. The demo showed early warning signs, but people said, "Comon now, how could Warren Spector screw this up? IT'S DEUS EX!"

Well...

Another month and an Xbox later, fanboys were weeping.

While HL2 is a great franchise, better than Deus Ex, these early warning signs might be foreboding a bad release. Not a bad game for god's sake, I would be happing playing the E3 demo; but things that are sometimes missed in a hurry, such as hardware issues and bugs.

Delayed til Sept.? No CS:CZ? I sense danger...

What was the point of this thread? and what do you mean "I sense danger"? what danger is there to sense? I dont understand what the hell you're talking about...

oh and by the way, "these early warning signs might be foreboding a bad release". Its actualy the opposite.

It's funny how one website says HL2 is going to be delayed and everyone goes nuts. Mars is going to hit the Moon, the Moon is going to hit the earth, and God is going to play pocket pool with them all, you believe me? If the SDK does come out on the 5th or close to it then I think that will be a pretty good sign that HL2 will be released a short while after.

How can delaying a game longer to finish it be a bad thing? I'm confused :x

that's exactly my point, delaying a game is a pro in a way, not a negative

Yes, I agree. Now, if we had seen a HL2 demo that wasn't up to HL2 quality, then I'd agree HL2 was in danger, however, this isn't the case.
This topic is odd. He's worried because the game was delayed and at the same time says it's in danger because DX2 was rushed and sucked? err..

yeah, so we all agree that this thread makes absolutely no sense. I knew DX2 sucked before it released, I dont know where all these great reviews are coming from. The game isnt that good. Now back to the Hl2 in Danger part, what the hell is that supposed to mean?

I'd also like to know what the hell this thread is about. :imu:

1. A delay isn't always bad(most of the time it's good).
2. This is more of a rumor and speculation board thread.
3. Just because deus ex 2 sucked, doesn't mean hl2 will.
4. You have no real case here..

Hehe, well, admittedly I would think delaying the game is going to give them time to polish it up, but I can see where he is coming from. It's clear that everything at the valve studios isn't going as it's meant to be, and they clearly didn't have the superb game that we all thought they had on September the 30th, because they had to delay it, so you can see there is some uncertainty here about what exactly the delay means.

Generally though, I hope they've just realised how much everyone is expecting of this game, they've had a panic attack when they saw the swarms of fanboys crawl out of the woodwork, and now they're trying to add content/polish the game til we can see our face in it (so they don't get lambasted for hyping us up too much).
What really worries me is when people ask questions about things that would be done by now if it was coming soon, and they get the reply "we're not sure if we'll do that" or, something like that... that kind of talk scares me...

heh well said. On that note I sure wish that DX:IW had been delayed :dozey:

Woah, congrats on making no sense. Only thing i'd agree with in your post is that DXIW sucks big ones. But most people could sense this from within the last year of its production. It was no real suprise. From an early stage everyone realised it was going to be consolised.
It would be pretty disgusting for valve to show us a video such as traptown and then 6months later produce a game that couldn't even match up.

I think that Valve should release the first Chapter of HL2 over steam as a present for being so bad...

Half-life 2 could have come out at a worse time... true. Max Payne 2 would have messed up its sales at chrismas. This month Deus Ex... same thing. Valve don't publicise it enough but they are a money hungry business (as is Epitaph)!

I personally think the games been complete for a while and its now all down to a timing strategy and ensuring that every possible customer knows about it.

Ha... ha... hmm... that's some monkey crap right there.

Blame the guys that leaked HL2 for its delay, now HL2 will have to go up against things like FarCry and Doom 3 instead of having an empty battleground.

Oh well. I'm buying all 3.

its valve monkey crap, its in their mission statement :afro:

For the last time, VALVe has stated that the theft was NOT the cause of the delay. The game is simply not done.

It wasn't done in the leak but they said themselves the leak would cause a delay due to them changing big chunks of code?

Moved to rumors and speculation, as its a bit of both, and people are asking for it to be moved there too. So well yeah :)

anybody heard that rumour about a plane in the game that takes off from the water, i personally don't think the vehicles will be playable upto that level (and i guess the framerate would suffer bad), I don't want to buy a flight simulator.

i believe that sales is the least of valves worries at this point. this game will do incredibly well sales wise. it will beat any game it goes up against like a red-headed step child. nothing ive seen on gamings horizon will pose a "threat" to HL2. of course there are other quality games coming out, but a greater number of quality titles is only good for us, the consumer. two things lead me to this conclusion that HL2 will dominate all competition.

1.) the number of gamers currently playing HL mods. most of these players
are ready for some new gaming to be had. just go check out http://www.gamespy.com/stats/.

2.) the amount of excitement in the growing HL community. have you seen how many people looked at the valve info thread? last time I checked it was over 500,000 views. thats over half a million. that is an impressive figure.

P.S. now why are all of you people complaining about DX:IW. you say you bought it and are now dissapointed? didnt the box art tell you that they ****ed up everything that was cool about the first game? i mean, when i saw a blue-haired metrosexual holding a future pistol gangster-style on the front, i quickly decided that it was no longer worth my 50 bucks.

Quote Valve: The leak DID NOT!! delay the game, it would have been delayed anyway.

*insert long winded anti noob rant here*

IMHO, more time spent on a game equals a better result when the game is released...
