HL2 Installation Problemo!

Hey guys, new to the forums, need a little help with the installation of HL2, just got it for x-mas along with a brand new PC.

When I got to install it everythings fine until. I get an "error 1335"
or "Error 1331 -HL22.cab corrupted" Why is'nt this working?
Does it have anything to do with Steam or Linux?
 
You have linux?

Half life 2 will not work on linux neither will steam install on linux.
 
Steam is not compatible with linux. even if your using cedega, its uber slow. however, i would try going to steampowered.com, download steam, and run it with wine. if it works, then just register your CD key in steam. you will need to download all the files, but if it works i guess its worth it
 
Well, do they have a Linux Version out yet-- Because I donèt want to buy a new computer.
 
There will not be a Linux version. Ever. Read the system requirements next time.
 
What, your computer is Linux-only?
And no, there is no Linux version(unless you count running a Windows emulator to be able to play as a version).
 
I dont see how a computer can be "Linux Only"...
Just install windows on a seperate partition.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't know that he can install Windows, and I was pointing that out.
 
Well, look, I have the game, for steam, and I`ve got a Linux computer --and Im not familiar with this kinda stuff, How do I get it installed,
Oh and Varsity, I did read the systems requirements, it says for Windows XP. Which I have..

NEED HELP PLEAAAASSSSEEEEE.... Ive been waiting for this game alllooonnngggg time.

just install steam and enter the code and download it!

So install it on your XP rig?
 
I downloaded the steam, but there was no place for the code..
 
oh dear we got ourselves a Steam noob here
play games> register Product or something like that and then ente ur Key

cool, found it, Ill be back inan hour or so, goin`to give it a try..
 
To go back to the first post, it means you have a bad CD and won't be able to install from it. Luckily, Steam comes to the rescue and you can download the corrupt stuff.
 
Ok guys I got to cd3 and a fatal error came up, I clicked retry: it worked,
Then when I put in CD4 5mins later a message appeared stating:
ERROR 1334 The file 'base_source_shared_gdf' cannot be found in the cabinet file hl24.cab,
Then it goes on about a network problem...
What do you mean varsity?
 
Make sure you install counter strike source with it.
 
I was, I had it selected.
I called the Hotline, and thats the only valuable info. I got from here..lol ben.
 
Can I skip cd4, and run setup on cd5, then just get a patch to fix the Error?

I get this error: Error 1334. The file 'hl2.ico1' cannont be installed because the file cannot be found in the cabinet file 'hl24.cab' when I try to install HL2 from my Retail CD

If you get this error, you need to restart Steam, let Steam update and then restart your installer again. Steam will rename and update the missing files and your installation should continue normally.

Make sure you install both HL2 and CS:Source (not just HL2).
 
Eeeer! This game is the worst game to be installed ever... First of all the install takes 45mins, and you keep getting errors, what was Valve thinking? I've tried repeatedly, and now I think I'll just return to mapping for Half-Life Original. I'll probably return the game If i can't get this fixed.

Nothing's working.

I NEED HELP.
 
Installation errors would come under vivendis responsibility.

Ok so tell us what exactly happens when you try to install it.
