Hi,

I seem to have a good enough set-up to run HL2 but at certain points in the game it starts to slow down and get jumpy. For example as i run across the rooftops in the first chapter with evrything chasing me! I understand that certain parts of the game are gonna require more preformance from my hardware, but surely if i got the required specifications then......

Please can anyone tell me if i perhaps need more RAM? faster Procesor? Graphics Card? or maybe iv'e got my settings all wrong....

My set up:

AMD Athlon XP 2600+ (Runs at 1.92 Ghz),
512 MB PC2100 DDR RAM,
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700LE 128MB

Thanks in advance.

your system is fine. check the graphics are set to the recommended for system. if thats not it then check you havent got ne spyware apps n stuff running in the background. if this still doesnt fix the problem, make sure you have the latest drivers for your hardware, graphics card and soundcard in particular.

dsummerz2k add this to your HL2 desktop shortcut (in the target box):

-heapsize 256000 +map_background none -novid

you could also add these to your config.cfg:

mat_specular "0"
mat_bumpmap "0"
cl_phys_props_enable "0"
cl_phys_props_max "0"
mat_bloom "0"
mat_clipz "0"
mat_fastnobump "1"
mat_fastspecular "1"
mat_compressedtextures "1"

If you really want better performance, I'd look into getting a new graphics card. Perhaps a X800 Pro or a 6800 GT.

If you don't really want to spend that much money on a graphics card, I'd suggest just turning down the video options to medium or low. Don't turn on AA or AF either.

strangely ive found with an ATI card, AA actually improves performance :S
thats interesting, i noticed the same thing but with forcing aa and af through my ctrl panel, i had 6aa and 16af selected in my ati ctrl panel and the game performed better than with 4aa and 16af in the hl2 option menu, maybe it just LOOKED smoother, *shrugs*
