HL2 Just wont install, help me please

Hi folks.

When i Go to launch half life 2 nothing happens. No start screen, no nothing.

Everything is installed, this exact game has worked on my pc before so hardware wise everything should be aok. All i have changed is my operating system to windows xp pro.

Any ideas Folks??

It when i start half life 2, the cursor turns to the sand timer for a quick second or so and then nothing??

Any ideas?

Do you have Steam, and a legal version?

yes everything is fully legal and original. Steam is installed i have tried launching the game through steam and through the hl2 direct shortcut on my desktop, my ati x600 is updated with the latest driverrs, i tested doom 3 this works fine it seems to be just hl2???

check that its 100% ready, right click on it on the steam menu and check the properties.

it is completely ready, i have alcohol 120% and this program seems to be doing the ame thing i do not know if this is relevant just thought i would mention it.
