HL2 Multiplayer Player Models.

Once the storm of mods come flooding in then HL DM will have to have something really special to hold its own.

I reckon Valve will either go all out and create something to stand the test of time...or leave it well alone for mods and variations because there'll be an awful lot of them coming in.

If i was valve id just rely on mods to fill out the mp.

Have a basic deathmatch for people to play around with for a few months, but overall rely on CS DOD and up coming mods to sell more boxes.

I think the best way to handle custom models is to have an option to turn on custom model dl's or not. That way the user has a choice. What do you think?

resistance vs combine is a cool idea but someone already thought of it:

resistance vs combine = Counter-Strike

 I like that referance :)
I want a scientist model, proper old-school one :)
The Streets - Give me my lighter back
Oi, oi - props to oldagerocker and Comrade for gettin the reference.
Such a shame that one of the best verses of that song were cut from the single version: "I didn't want to stroll over all geezer and rude/Not rude like good but rude like uncouth... Yess yess you are rude, and rude as in good..."
But Comrade - Give Me My Lighter Back? Where d'you here that? Is it a B-side or what? Can't be any worse than Get Out Of My House <shudders> What a voice that woman has...

I want a Har Mar Superstar model - ie: a short fat naked man in a thong with whispy hair and bad facial hair. How's that for the element of surprise?

Yeah, this would probably be the best option. You can either choose to dl the custom model or not...

I've been saying they'll have resistance vs combine since FOREVER but NO ONE listens. Anyway, if they did have R v C It'd be awesome with vehicles and shit

yeah, ive been wanting to play that for a while. itll be cool to be a resistance member hiding in a blown apart building shooting a rocket at a transport vehicle full of combine soldiers.

If they don't have R vs C someone will mod it in.....

and if noone does, I think I'll have to get off my fat arse and do it myself :bounce: .....

even if it takes till HL3 :E

Resistance versus combine in big city areas will be pure rockage.

Well, as for in-Game downloadable skins, in Early HL1 MP. If the server was set to download skins, the other player skins would download if you did not have them already on your hard drive. In later updates this was put also as a client-side selection. This was also a big lag issue for folks on Dialup.
Problem in downloading skins was always this. Some people would load in invisble skins or micro skins. I remember the "Wall" model. This model was a blue scientist about 6 inches tall. Try to hit that eh? Just rockets and satchels were the best way to kill them. I kept deleting it and some @55hole would play and use that skin and it would download again. There were mini-smurf models and all sorts of exploitative models back then such as the flea and roach. All you would see are weapons floating around in the game.
I finally realized that I could replace the model in its directory with another model and rename it to the original model's name and that model would appear in its stead. ROFL.
HA
So, I replaced all explotative models such as wall, smurfs, invisible, flea, roach and Rigel with a Yodan model which was the size of a small buffalo or with the Idiot model, a standard size model, all white with a bullseye on back and front. All the rest, I left alone.

So you're better off downloading skins from skin sites. At 1 point I had 450 skins or player models on my system.
