HL2 needs a connection to Run?

I can't run HL2 unless I run steam, and I can't run steam unless I have an internet connection present. I thought I only needed a connection to install.

Any solutions? A collage student who wants a game to run without a connection.

When you start steam without an internet connection, it should give you the option of start in offline mode, given that you've run the game before.

There is an option to save account information on your computer. Disconnect (or unplug it if need be) and then start steam and you should be able to chose to either retry or start in offline mode.

yeah, i had the same problem. i had already activated and played offline until yesterday it decided half-life was not ready to play offline and to connect to the internet. WTF? i thought you only had to do this once.

Anyway, I think there was a patch that makes it easier to login on offline mode, so you should update.

steam gives no offline option

im in the same boat as servers are blocked at my uni, so steam thinks there is no internet. as i dont have account details saved on my comp, it cant reg. me. im stuck n i cant play
