I sent this along to Gabe last week. I suppose nothing has come their way, but at least we know Gabe is as much of a fan of H A L F L I F E 2 D O T N E T as the rest of us! Keep up the good work HL2.net staff!

Thanks for the mail. I'm a fan of them as well. I'll see what we can
do.

First, let me say that I am in no way affiliated with those who run this website, but as an eagerly waiting fan, I have been mightily impressed with their service to the HL2 community. These guys have always provided accurate information and don't fuel the rumors and specuation about HL2 like other sites do. They have always stood behind valve, where others have been quick to jump off the bandwagon because of the delays. Where many fansites have posted magazine scans and other questionable content, halflife2.net has gone out of their way to make sure such content isn't available through them and has encouraged the community to wait for official content released by valve. HalfLife2.net is an outstanding and central member of the HL2 community and I think Valve owes it to them to show them some support. How about sending something exclusive their way? What do you say Mr. Newell?
I'm suprised the e-mailer didn't make a post about this - definitely good news, assuming it's true! :D

whats that word im looking for........

"orgasm!"

wait no.....

"YES!!!"

yip that will do.

We haven't heard anything as yet regarding exclusive stuff but as soon as we do you'll all be the first to know.

It's just great that Gabe actually recognises the work we do.

Moved to Halflife2.Net forum.

It would be the least thing to do from Valve since this is the greatest of HL2 fan-sites out there..great news. Thank you halflife2dotnet !

It would own if Gabe actualy posted here the release date of the SDK/Game

or just anything cool and new.

I think hosting or getting them help with the hosting was help enough. Valve didn't have to bother with HL2.net but they went out of their way to make sure the site went back up.

Absolutely correct. They've done more than enough already. If they want to start trusting us with exclusives though then they can go right ahead :)

I doubt it'll happen though to be honest. It's very unusual that any one but print magazines would get exclusive information. The fan sites are left out a little in that respect, but like I said, Valve (and Limelight of course) have done more than enough already.

You'll get exclusive things... It must happen!

:)

We hope. Thanks guys.. remember, it's you lot that keep this forum going \o/

Indeed...
Munro has already based relationships with Valve, what Valve gives hl2.net in the future will be seen.

Wow this is awsome! It would be very cool if they sent something exclusive our way :) But I hope it wouldn't be a vid, since that would KILL the bandwith and the server heh.

It'd be nice to test this server though for a change :)

We do have a lot of bandwidth apparently.

Do you know how much "a lot" is? And since you guys don't pay for this server what happends when you exceed "a lot"? does the site go down for the rest of the month or?

I don't know the exact figure myself, but I do know that no matter what happens, Limelight have taken into consideration the previous bandwidth usage, the sort of bandwidth usage we had in early October (5000+ members online :O) and the fact that there's a good possibility that there'll be even more once the game is released.

We shouldn't have any problems at all, and even if we do, we'll probably get more bandwidth.

I think valve should let HL2.net sell hl2 one month early. But they should keep it secret, so no one knows. Or they could give us all vouchers for some new video cards..I could use one of those. I'm going to go start a rant thread about my video card...

That isn't how something as dedicated as this works. I'm guessing that this server has unlimited bandwidth, the only thing that limits it is the network card they use. If its a 100 MB/s ethernet card that is their bandwidth, if its a 10 MB/s then that is their actuall bandwidth. The site wouldn't shut down for a period of time because of bandwidth issues, it might simply be a little slow when the ethernet card can't keep up or the actual server resources are low (small chance of that happening over a simple video download since virtually no server side processing is done to fetch this file). Ofcourse this isn't official as I don't know how they are hosted but that would be my best bet as limelight is sponsoring them. I think the limit on a 10 MB/s ethernet card is about 3 TB a month.

aye as far as i am aware our bandwidth as in how many gig per month we use isn't an issue, it's.. what's the word .. throughput ? ie how many kb per sec the site can handle at one time is the main issue .. not sure tbh :)

\o/ on the original topic it would be great if we got some exclusives be it vid , pic's or an interview .. or soemthing else entirely like news but I think for all the staff anything like that is simply an added bonus at this point :)
