HL2.net vs. ???

During a pretty long match of Lazytown today, I started thinking about HL2.net and noticed there is alot of good players among us. I thought it would be a good idea for HL2.net to gather its best and brightest players of TF2 together in a single team of 9 (one player for each class) and take on another popular Source based fan site, like Facepunch.

The other site would do the same and then we'd vote for official maps to play 3 matches on over a period of a few days.

Use this thread to consider it, and if your interested, post the name of the class you are best at. Other people can comment on whether your best at that class or not and we'll compare to find the best group of TF2 players on HL2.net.


Personally, I vote myself for Medic or Soldier, I'm pretty damn good as both but I think it would be safer playing Medic, as I can have my 'on and off' days as Soldier.

I also vote for Highlander being Pyro, he is pretty ****ing immense as that class.

I'd wanna be sniper, even though I lag a bit my k/dr is almost always 2+
But you guys haven't seen me play yet though :|

thats a pretty cool idea - i'm pretty good at scout - although nobody has seen me play here. I can imagine it - [HL2.net] wpjisc◊◊l
 
I'm very interested. I'm a very good spy most of the time, but I occasionally will get into a bad rutt where I play poorly. And there are so many others here who'll be wanting spy, so I probably shouldn't get it.

I'm a very good engi (consistently), but I need to practice with what's changed since the update since I've been playing L4D. I'm a good heavy too, if we'll need someone for it.

I'm down for medic. Please refer to my resume here. I'm available weekends or evenings (pacific time), and am familiar with most stock TF2 maps. :dork:

For the maps I nominate pl_badwater for Round 1, Round 2 can be cp_dustbowl and Round 3 can be ctf_2fort.

EDIT: Adabiviak, you are probably the best Medic on this site, I vote for you and I will now play as Soldier, unless your unavailable.
 
I'm decent at medic heavy pyro and soldier. I'd play Heavy if ya want.
 
tav and Loke are really good medics as well, but I don't know if they'd be interested.
 
I just need to know when the matches will be, as I won't be able to make mid-week, daytime (PST) events. I think I've only run into a few people from this site in the context of TF2, once checking out a map that Pi made, and other times randomly on public servers.

Further considerations...

I have a microphone/headphones for voice chat (which should be a requirement of whomever signs up, I think). For the purposes of the match, a handle besides 'adabiviak' should be picked, preferably no more than two syllables, as I notice a lot of people in online matches choking on pronouncing it.

I have experience with both the kritzkreig and the medigun, and leave the selection of these up to the team. If you want me to use the 'kreig, you should remain in such a position as to allow me to remain in cover while using it. I will run out after you if I think the tradeoff of a few extra critical hits vs. my inevitable death will benefit the team, but if you've not demonstrated good judgement about this in the past, you're on your own.

I will not go on the offense unless asked to - I prefer the support role (but can run as an offensive medic, but that seems like a waste to me).

Heck, it's Sunday. Why don't we hop onto the HL2 server now and have some structured tryouts?

I'd do either scout or spy, preferably scout.

The only ones which are marginally screwed up are medic and heavy, which I both played on a semi-pub server where we were playing vs complete newbs. Hence the 15-domination medic and 24-kill heavy. Scout and spy (and all other) stats are completely from servers with experienced players on them.

Then again, I probably won't be arsed either way, so... yeah.

Edit: I don't have a working microphone, so that'll be another obstacle.
 
No mic here, and I agree that serious play should be restricted to people with voice chat capability. Which is a shame because I could have used my mediocrity to confuse our opponents into defeat.
 
How about using the spy as a decoy? I.e. disguising as friendly to prevent the real heavy from being shot at.
 
I'm up for it, probably as pyro or soldier.

Where should the server be located? Preferably in North America so that Australians, Americans and Europeans all that play with decent ping.
 
Tav is my medic while I'm a heavy.

Wouldn't he just die incredibly fast? And why would that stop them from shooting at the actual heavy?

As for a mic: Found mine a couple days ago. Didn't work properly that night, but I think I could get it working.

I'd come, but I can't sit and play one game for more than an hour. It's not in me... Less the game just came out, and I've been waiting for it forever, in which case I can play for days.
 
It would be amazing to have Pi sniping, but that's never gonna happen.
 
I'm still kinda new, but I manage to kill one or two people per life.

I do best as a heavy.

We need a captain, by which, someone who's going to decide who plays which class, picks a date, and does his or her best to choreograph all this. We could always do it by vote/poll, but I imagine that would take a long time. They don't necessarily need to manage our play strategy (although that would be helpful), someone just needs to say 'when'.

I also think we should make sure we're able to be at the same place at the same time as a coherent team before calling another forum out. Does anyone have an objection to Nicky 0123 taking this role? If so, please have a recommendation. Also, are the HL2 TF2 servers still up? I couldn't find them the other day.
 
Seems to be enough interest to think about splitting this into an American/Australasian group and a European group.
 
I think I should be Captain, since it is my idea.

And remember people, we don't want 'Your best class' we want, 'Your best class that your best at more than everyone else here'
