This thread is for people who wish to be involved with Source World. Only those who reply correctly to this thread will be considered, this is because it seems to have become quite a popular project. As such we need to know who exactly is going to be doing what, and to make the selection process as fair as possible, eg: You wont be hired just because your a friend of someone, or because you've a couple of cool idea's but no other talents.

Previous experience: No formal experience in any field really. Mapping has been for CS and for fun so far. I have never released a map. Simply because I never bothered to fully polish any of them before something happend such as a hard disk whipe...

What other talents do you have?: I love to inovate when I map. I find it fairly dull just to make a normal map with nothing special to set it apart. For example I had a CS map where you could crawl above the ceiling on the ceiling tiles on an office map. The best bit was that you could shoot out those tiles.....

Why do you want to be involved in Source World?: I want to have a hand in creating something I believe could be really special. This is the kind of project that could really work and be really worth it...

Previous experience: I've made maps and units for Total Annihilation, did mapping on HL1, XMP, RA1/2, Generals etc..

What other talents do you have?: I'm a man of many talents... :p All of the above, plus I draw, I create websites, I have many badminton trophees (who cares :p), I know multiple languages and many more stuff that you don't care about.

Why do you want to be involved in Source World?: The idea is awesome. It's like URU (myst 4: online) without the linking books... ^_^ No but seriously, it's a great project, I've been looking for something like this for years, with URU it finally came, but URU got canceled :(
I've always dreamed of making an ever expanding 3D environment do just chat in, where you don't actually have to do something, but could if you wanted to.

Tell us why you think you should be involved in Source World: In the thread that started it, a lot of ideas came from me... :p I thought up the concept of interserver/map traveling (although the mods claim otherwise;)) and well, I would make a good asset. Or so I hope ;)

What other talents do you have?: UVW unwrapping, and I enjoy it, free time.. i have oodles. Im a fast learner, work hard on a task that is given to me, and am willing to learn new skills. Simply because I have been a part of HL2.net since it became available...

Im a hard worker, fast learner... I keep focused, I LOVE games, I LOVE HL2, and HL2.net. I am dedicated and I accomplish what I set out to do, I keep positive and I love working with a team. I dont expect a project to be completed within a week, and I will stick around until it is done.

Examples of your work: All of my examples I have can't be, very ironically, released due to legal reasons. I am however working on two games, an RTS that is being made fromt he ground up, and a farming simulation using game maker.

Why do you want to be involved in Source World?: Because it's exactly what I had in mind. Well not exactly, a couple of the suggested ideas seem a bit over the top for me, but we'll see about that.

Tell us why you think you should be involved in Source World: Because you'll need someone to do the finishing touches, the details, for backup purposes, someone who can pitch in for anything that's falling behind.

I don't pretend I have any essential qualities, howhever you will not be able to find anyone with a broader range of interests and skills.

-Because mods are fun, and this one looks particularily fun.

Previous experience: Uhh.. I can say that I have played many games, and I have "mapped" for Starcraft quite a bit. I have about 3 years of Hammer experience, and my knowledge of the first Half Life engine is pretty solid, at least in the mapping ways of things

What other talents do you have?: None. :) Wish I could draw a bit better, and play the piano...

Actually, I read on it more and I like the idea and hope to make some maps for you. But that won't be for a while, now will it?

Tell us why you think you should be involved in Source World: Uhh, I'm not so sure how I'm supposed to answer this. Heh... because I think I'm at least mediocre at mapping, and I will certainly enjoy doing it, and I really really would like to map some of the ideas I've read in there... and I'll be devoted, I promise! I really do want to be a part of this mod, it seems great.

Examples of your work: unfortunatly, nothing ive worked on has been finished due to lack of interest or lack of non-lazy artists. I recently coded a streetfighter style beat-em-up but i have graphics for menus, about 4 charecter sprites and some stickmen i made for testing. the code is finished though and its a good framework

Previous experience: ive coded many simple games but they all got lost when i left them in my university workspace over summer


What other talents do you have?: I rock at most games, and by that i mean i can get a new game and on my second try beat about 3/4 of the online players. and if someone gives me a premise i can usually work it to make it happen and make it fun.


A bit of info about yourself: have a small buisiness fixing other peoples computers, 2 out of 3 years through a degree in cybernetics, and puzzles?


Why do you want to be involved in Source World?: because i need something to do over summer, and it would look good on CV for when i get a real job.

One of your team members (63sixthree63) told me to apply even though I don't have 5 examples to post yet, so here are the examples I do have. I'll post more as I draw them. I just recently got a digital drawing pad, so I haven't had a lot of time to create some decent digital work (no, I don't have a scanner).

This is just some random thing that came to me a few days ago. It's not really practical as a weapon, but I suppose with Source's physics and a few adjustments you could turn it into a ball launcher for batting cages or something in Source World.

Previous experience:
Never done any concept art for a mod before, but I've been drawning since I was about 5.

What other talents do you have?:
I would consider myself something of a Flash expert. I know the application and the scripting language very well. I can do basic 3D (very basic), AI, and physics with it. I can also integrate it with PHP and XML databases. I can do web graphics, well, any type of graphics really. I have a varied background in coding, and I plan to pickup at least a little bit of HL2's language when I get the SDK. I consider myself a fairly decent designer, though I'm sure you've not only got enough of those, but you've heard it from most everybody who wants to be part of a mod. Everyone wants to be a designer. I'm also in the process of learning XSI.

A bit of info about yourself:
I'm and IT major at PennState (I have no school spirit, so if you have something against PSU, don't expect me to defend them ;)). I draw and play PC games most days. No job this summer so I've got a lot of free time that I need to fill with something. Oh, and I also hang out with my friends once in a while. But who needs friends when you have a Wacom Intuos2 with 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity. :naughty:

Why do you want to be involved in Source World?:
It sounds like a good idea with lots of variety and flexibility for the design team to play with. Which, in my opinion, is always a good thing for a game. Plus I think it will actually get finished and I don't want to bother with a team that will give up in the middle of the project. I'd also like to play it and this is the best way I can see for me to help futher its developement.

Tell us why you think you should be involved in Source World:
I was told by one of your members that I should apply, so here I am. I also have no life at this time (as stated above) so I spend a good portion of my days doing nothing but drawing. It might as well be used for a worthy cause. I've also been told I'm a pretty decent artist, so I think Source World could benefit from that.

Why do you want to be involved in Source World?: After reading over your intentions for it, I just wanted to do everything I could to help and be a part of it. I think it is one of the greatest mod ideas ever.


Tell us why you think you should be involved in Source World: I want to lend my photography and photoshop skills to the development of SW. And I would also like to help with the design/layout of SW. I would hope to be able to get any and all pictures needed for mappers and modelers to make everything look as best it can. A simple picture can really help a mapper keep on track with setting a particular mood for any area.

Why do you want to be involved in Source World?:
Because it just sounds so cool, and I would like to be a part of a Mod, or make something other people will enjoy playing.


Tell us why you think you should be involved in Source World: Because I think I could add a lot to the place, like perhaps some ancient scriptures, or poems that the Dwarves handed down to their companions, or I could think of a new storyline that would bring the whole of Sourceowrld together to find the answer to what's going on. And I could design animals (Hell no! -Dark Elf :p) or maybe places in the sourceworld area, or perhaps research different timezones, and concept some pieces that could be included.
