HL2= No power assist?

I play hldm or ag with the better players, and when I looked at HL2 I noticed the tau gun is making a come back, but it said nothing about power assist.

Does this mean the game will be slower then hl stoping people to fly around the map bunny hopping to their enemies or not?

Also what is E3?

Thanks

Well E3 is a huge game expo, where all the game developers come and show off there games, it takes place somewhere in California. it cost about $350 for regular ppl to get in, but all u really have to do is lie and say ur a journalist or something like that and they let u in for free.

I'm not sure about the first two questions, but as for E3, www.e3.com (I think..)

It's the electronic exposition. Basically a bunch of companies go there to show off whatever new stuff they have in developement.

E3 is the Electronic Entertainment Expo, a huge convention for video game and peripheral manufacturers where they get to hear about the latest industry trends and unveil their newest innovations.

"Power assist," eh? I assume you're talking about the power jump you got in HL1 shortly before you entered Xen? I'm not sure if that's coming back or not. It was basically a necessity to navigate the wide gaps between floating rocks in the borderworld, but unless you revisit Xen or a similar low-gravity, low-density dimension in HL2, I doubt the power jump will make a reappearance.

If that's the case then HL2 will be a very slow paced game which wont live up to the hldm/ag players and will result in a slow moving with losts of camping, such as CS :(

Well, I don't know about all that. Power jumping does not a fast-paced game make. There are plenty of other factors, such as level size, diversity of weapons scattered throughout the level, time spent fine-tuning the gameplay, etc. Fact is, unlike HL2's single player experience, nobody knows enough about the multiplayer portion to even speculate about what to expect. I, for one, am full of anticipation. :)

What makes hl multiplayer so good and is still played today is how fast it is and if you watch an ag match of a top player you will see how skilled the game is and why it is the fastest fps game in the world.

Without the tau gun, power assist and the bunny hopping, it would hav died along time ago.

Huh...? What is

ag match?
the tau gun?
bunny hopping?

lol have you never played half-life?

ag= Adrenalin Gamer, basically hl but much faster, so if you do a power assist jump and then Gauss you'll go across the map, but when you hit the floor you can bunny hop by using strafe left, jump strafe right jump continuously you will regain that speed and accelerate, also some of the weapons skins are different.

tau gun= Gauss

bunny hopping= a glitch discovered that allows you to move but only using the strafe keys and jumping, example, strafe right jump, strafe left jump, do this continually while moving the mouse in the direction you want to go. It's hard to do but when you pick it up it's very easy.

I would suggest dl the mod and watch some demos of GaRpY and you will see a true fps.

Sigh...

I can answer the last two. The tau gun (aka gauss gun, aka tau cannon) is the gun you got in the "Questionable Ethics" chapter of HL1. It's the gun that shoots an orange beam of energy that can ricochet off walls when you use primary fire. Secondary fire can be held down to charge up to a superpowerful beam that can shoot through walls. In multiplayer, you can point the secondary fire beam at the ground and use it to propel you through the air. Sort of like a rocket jump, but safer (kind of).

Bunny hopping is a controversial technique by which a player can take advantage of early game physics engines and build up speed by strafe-jumping rapidly in a straight line. Many people disagree about whether bunny hopping is an exploitable bug or an intended feature. In Painkiller it's actually a documented engine feature, which just confuses things more.

I played alot of HLDM to, and tbh, I dont think bhop will still be in, since its not on the Q1/HL engine.
And flying around with gauge wont work either I think, since this was also a bug in HL

are you sure? I would love a game where bhop is implemented :) :imu:

power assist or that jumper thing made HL mutli fun and fast paced? what servers have you been on? i need to go there :E

im sure there are gonna be loads of fun things instore for us on multiplayer, unless if its TF2, then ill eat my hat :E

Actually, ferd, I really enjoy the bunny-hopping in Painkiller (great game, by the way). I was just referring to the fact that actually including it in a game as a documented feature further blurs the line between exploitable bug and intended addition.

HL is incredibly fast paced, if you set server speed right. :)
I used to play on a sever with speed set to 400... that rox like hell.
Playng bootcamp with tau, lj at this speed is incredible fun.

BTW: I guess Hl2 will have the fast paced elements in DM, its all, dm is about ;). au gun will be back and since the primary fire is not used by any semi-experienced player, sec fire will be back, IMHO.

haha cool, i was just pondering, what would a Mp5 on sec fire do? :stare:

as far as i know Bunny hopping was originally a bug in the quake 1 (?) engine that became a feature. Valve tried to get it out of the game several time, I think it's still in it right now (with a cfg tweak), certainly it is in AG.
I always considered bh somewhat lame, like side and back lj. Get a longhump module.... ;)

ps: there's still much more moving bugs in HL, like strafe ladder climbing and wall high speed running.

for the tau, dumba..., :p

anyway, mp5 sec fire sux with some players, too... :)

Bunnyhopping in the Painkiller demo is pretty fun cause you can reach insane speeds that way, no way the enemies can hit you then.

I get so freakn' tired of your tau cannon abusers in HLDM. Its so freakn' sad that you can only use one weapon. You just sit around and pick off people with the cheap ass one hit kill from that thing.

Try using something else like the MP5. Or even the MP5 grenade............that takes skill and presision.
Or try one of the many other weapons in the game............like the Shot Gun......or the RPG....... Theres so much more out there than the freakn' gauss gun......

Meh. Don't get mad at them. Drop snarks on them. ;-)

Heh....yeah, thats the other thing.........dispite their little tricks, I still beat their asses into the ground.

I know Gabe has said he's not a huge fan of bunny-hopping. So I'd think that they would have fixed the BH issue in HL2?

lol!

ye, gausing doesnt require skill, your so right

I suppose they would have upgraded the hazard suit in the years Gordon has been 'missing' (or whatever he has been doing) thats unless the game is set a couple of months later, but i think i read that its a few years, so if the hazard suits production has continued there may be new features built in, like the ability to jump without the assist modual...speculation though, chances are there were not that many scientist left unless the guy in the wheelchair from the PS2 version is still around.

Yeah, Source is a totally new engine so I bet there will be no trace of bunny-hopping, which is an artifact of the Quake engine.

Soz Varsity but he doesnt, if you watch the E3 vids from last year (direct feed) IIRC you can hear the HEV bird voice saying "Welcome to the HEV mark 6" or something similar plus if you look at the layout of the screen its changed so it HAS to be a new suit.

Personally I think it is going to damage the user.

Correct if you ca't bunny hop then that will kill hldm considerably, let along tfc.

I seriously hope they don't take it out.

I hope beyond hope that they take it out, thats why I STOPPED playing hldm, all of the goddamned bunny hoppers and gauss gun jumpers. It was just gay, not like a real game at all. Im sure hl2 will be just as fun without all that crap, and im hoping we'll get to use physics to our advantage.

I'm guessing no power assist jump. Valve already said that you wouldn't be going back to Xen in HL2 and power assist WAS made to "navigate the border world."

And, it's GOTTA be the same HEV suit. Why would you get a new one? The HEV wasn't made as combat armor or anything like that...it was to protect the science team members in dangerous experiements and in Xen. No reason for the G-Man to give you a new HEV and drop you into a war zone.

I reckon the HUD is different because of a firmware upgrade... :E

And the new art you see around of the HEV does look different, if you compare it to the old pics of Gordon wearing it... but that could just be the artist's idea...

Ohhhh, Brian, you just gave me a theory. What if we DO get an "upgrade" during the game? Let's say, just as specualtion, that Gordon discovers that the true villian of the story is the Admin and the G-Man and he turns on them. We KNOW that the HEV is "full of tracking devices" from HL...wouldn't it be logical to think that there's also a "kill switch" for such a valuable piece of equipment? Sooo...the Admin kills the HEV when we betray him and we have to find somebody (Eli? Kleiner? Even Alyx?) to fix it for us. And, when they fix it, they give our wardrobe a little "upgrade."

Would make for a great in-game sequence, too. The Admin kills our HEV and sends in a Combine assassination squad...and Gordon has to fight his way to the character that can fix it without any armor.

That would be neat...

I'd forgotten that "Full of tracking devices" bit...
