HL2: Nuclear-Dawn

Because of a load of concept art?

I'll reserve judgement for now but yeah, the concept looks ok.

Do you work on the project btw Kingady?

no i dont :) but watch the turret.avi, looking at the concept art and the video, i think the team have excellent skills.

Daniel Conway aka Arcipello in this thread ( http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=112004 ) is one of the dudes

Experience
Our current team is probably one of the most veteran and professional teams available for a mod anywhere in the world, with experience ranging from our design and coding team who have worked with companies and teams such as Day of Defeat Retail (Valve), Counter Strike Retail (Valve), Halo for the PC, Gearbox Software, Pocketeers and Planetside (Sony Online Entertainment), ; through to our marketing and PR team who have for companies such as Electronic Arts, Lionhead Studios, Bullfrog and most recently, CDV.

Concept art does not a good mod make.

The concept art is great. But thats all they've shown to date (many months)

The turrent looks nice, but all that is, is a simple animation and a couple of particle emitters with shells attached, and a painfully low lifetime.. You'll not see that in source.

I'd like to see some proper models and other work rather than the same recycled images from ages ago.

I agree with the others. I havent looked into this mod since the leader told me to **** off because i defended ichi in some places, but i see it havent changed so much. Heard from people that the leader isnt that great either and people are quiting.

The concepts looks great, but i want to know what the mod is about, gameplay, story and all that. They might have loads of pro devs on the team, but i dont think they have time to work on this mod. They will just sit there, idleing to look cool :)

If they can make a great mod (which they have to do since they said they are the most pro mod team ever in the cgtalk thread) then ill play it!

But now... bah..

If they're as pro as they say, maybe they should be making a game not a mod.

Oh, and I know the leader and various people on this team, and some ex-members of this team. Majestic is right, the leader has been rude in the past. He said that my old mod, Red Orchestra was a failure, when it was in PC GAMER as mod of the month, won Phase 2 MSU contest and he doesn't really have much in the way of past experience (that I'm aware of) that's better than it. That really offended me.

I talked to the leader (DaveL) some time ago, and he said they didn't even know what engiene to use! So lets just hope it will be HL2 since they got shitloads of skilled people (atleast on the graphics part).

yeah, they have/had ank, so they'll have some nice art stuff (remember his f2000?) But I have heard from alot of people that there aren't too many nice people on the team...expcially the leader.

i've known dave for a while, once you get to know him he isnt as bad as you make out. nd has a lot more than concept art :)

maybe he just doesnt like getting to know new people.... how old is he by the way?

I have talked to some ex members of nuclear dawn and I even work with one. Its not my business to start anything up but I dislike the leader, also know one has any info on what your actually going to do when your playing.

[EDIT] Last time I talked to him he was actually alright, kinda. I don;t think he is 100% asshole. Maybe he is just stressed out or something...

I know its pritty much 60/70% chance they will make a very good sucessful mod. But at the end of the day concepts are not everything.

I would much rather put money on my mods concept :p (not eye candy)

Holy christ. There's talent oozing from that work.

theres some irony in that statement, because they defiently seem to have talent oozing away from the mod. The main concept artist for ND has gone to hullbreach, and their main modeller has gone to corporate anarchy. Its been a while since I've seen any ND recruitment posts on the web, don't know if that means anything. Maybe they've found replacements.

"He said that my old mod, Red Orchestra was a failure" being in pcgamer doesn't make your mod special. case in point, they also had jedi timeline in there. stupid editor :)

i'm surprised at you, basing opinions of someone on such unreliable information.

Hmm Red Orchestra. I prefer the close quarter, gut wrenching, action packed gameplay of Day of Defeat. The atmosphere of RO sadly dissipates due to the size of the maps. I enjoy linear gameplay where the combat is focused and directed towards certain "chokepoints".

In the end i just found RO too slow and dull.

The guy with the unspellable name? He was pretty much 99% of the stuff they've ever shown. As I understand it he's a bit of a recluse but a nice guy and seems to have been the bricks and mortar of that mod. So now if he's gone.....

I don't think Nuclear Dawn will have any problems with team members. You need to remember most people don't know the full team or who is new or isn't. Maybe we should get DaveL back and ask him :p

I'm actually quite curious because apart from him been in my bad books he has the patentional to make a very good mod. Hopefully...

Ifact, I am guessing DaveL has seen this topic and has taken the pictures down. Mainly because they don't seem to be working anymore. I never really understood that guy. May be he was pissed off... May be the server just went down :p

*shrugs* its turning into a bit of a joke now.

Weren't they once accused of firing a coder because he refused to look at the beta code? I'm definitely not trying to mudslap the mod, but I remember D33 (former staff) saying something about it. The mod leader that guy was one named Defcon. Is this the same Nuclear Dawn?

Yea he goes by Dephcon too I think..that or Defcon yea.

I know a few former staff and a particular current staff at ND. I hear mixes between good and bad things from them.

"Weren't they once accused of firing a coder because he refused to look at the beta code?"
that was me, i completely misfired. i was on the team, and dave asked me to code something. wondering how i could code anything without the hl2 sdk, i assumed beta, but he meant hl1 as a prototype. complete misunderstanding on my part :)

Well I know DaveL, had a few conversations with him namely about my mod and his having similar names. About the fact that Nuclear Dreams, my mod uses the abreviation ND, and his mod Nuclear Dawn uses the same abreviation. There have been times where he was a dick, and other where he was quite pleasant. I guess it just depends on his mood.

Now when it comes to concept art, and whos on your team, it doesnt mean anything untill you actually put something out. There is a high chance that every mod will fail, and I find it disconcerting that people flock to mods that have tons of concept art and/or models that only show part of what they can do. Its the bandwagon thing. But I agree the work is awesome, I hope they suceed, its just annoying sometimes how people act. Lmao, its all about looks, no personality.

Modellers often want clear instructions for what to make, having a good concept artist really helps in recruiting modellers.

I have to say that I was really blown away by their art, and how they presented the mod also, they must have some good PRs. When you see the art (specially the Nuclear explosion) you get really exited.
But like you say, Is just art.

I e-mailed the guy telling him good luck, he was nice and wished our mod the best.

None of the art shows up for me and the website is one page?
