During our recent Access All Areas tour of Valve Software's US offices, we uncovered some white-hot Half-Life 2 news that's more exciting than Stacey Keibler calling us up and offering to do a naked centrefold.
Valve has already confirmed that Half-Life 2 is coming to Xbox, right? And Newell confirmed it's well up-and-running, too. "We have it running on Xbox right now, but a decision on how and when we'll release it is reliant on our ongoing conversations with Microsoft," Valve's managing director said to our sister print publication CVG magazine.

But how will it compare to its PC cousin? Well, according to Gabe, the Xbox version will be identical to the PC one, only slightly inferior in the graphics department. So imagine the best looking PC game from 12 months ago - say Unreal II - and you'll be pretty close to how it'll look. In other words, it's still going to be one of if not the best looking Xbox title
ever.

Better still, all of the PC version's facial animation, physics and musculature systems will be in there, too!

It's also guaranteed to run more smoothly than a Porsche on rails, no matter how many aliens cram onto your TV. How? By fractionally reducing the detail level of each creature, so the mayhem continues uninterrupted. Sweet. As yet there's no release date, with the PC version shipping first. But one thing's for sure - Xbox ain't that far behind.

Hope this isn't old news...

Yeah but... who cares about Xbox?

Haha nah, I hadn't seen that info before, thanks for the post. That's cool that Valve is already well on their way to creating a final build of the Xbox version as well.

I think it'll be interesting to see, when all is said and done, just how well HL2 looks and runs on the console(s).

the xbox IS the closest to a PC there is for consoles..

Heh, I have some friends who don't care about HL2, because they are Xboxers :dork: . But now I can recruit them into the HL2 Cult...I mean, err... Group.

you cant play hl2 on a xbox.. its going to ruin the whole hl2 feeling.. bah

Yeah but if you want to see HL2 in all it's glory, PC is the obvious choice. It sounds like the graphics on the Xbox version are always lower than the PC (in other words they might scale, but the best they get will be slightly less clear/impressive than the best they get on the PC).

Even though Valve is 'promising' HL2 will run flawlessly on the Xbox, you know it'll see its fair share of slowdowns, at certain points. I hate to be pessimistic, but with a game as advanced as HL2, I'd definitely be bugging my friends to play it on their PCs if I didn't have my own.

I have friends who are incapable of properly using a PC for games of this nature...solitaire..thats a different story...but they can use a controller for the xbox..so it will be good for them..I will check it out but I will PLAY on the PC

what is the HL2 feeling?

Eh, Kiwii is right, in a way. In HL1 there was a lot of pixel-perfect aiming, trying to use every bullet wisely. You just aren't able to do that on a console. If you try to strafe and nail an alien in the head with each shot on a PC, it's possible with practice, but good luck with an analog stick. (And don't say that auto-aim is an acceptable substitute, that's cheating :D).

Sure HL2 will still be a fun game on the Xbox, but it most definitely won't have the same feel as a PC shooter.

But that is HL1, Half Life 2, by all we know, is 75% completly different ;)

What do you mean? Seriously, I might have missed it, but I didn't see anyone mention HL1 in this thread.

EDIT: My bad, I didn't see that you were referring to my latest post. I was merely explaining that in HL1 you need to make each shot count (on the harder settings) and that it's tough to do with a controller. I really don't think HL2 will turn out much differently.

We conducted an in-depth survey and concluded that TV news stations are 100% correct, most of the time!

No, that was mostly sarcasm. It is hard to convey sarcasm on a forums without putting a /sarcasm or *sarcasm* around it ;) My mistake.

Ah, I missed it. And I'm usually the one that can't stand it when others overlook blatant sarcasm.

offcourse it wont... it's on a console.. not a PC.. :| ;) :p

but why not have a keyboard and a mouse plugged in to your XBOX...
and play HL2 on a BIGASSMOTHERF****NG BIG WIDESCREEN TV?

that would be "beyond the PC feeling"..
(or you could just plug your PC into a ws-tv) :|

Hmm, because the graphics would be shitty and it would run slowly? Not only that, I've got a big monitor right here and a very comfy chair :D

I have both and I love them equally... tho I like the prices more on the PC versions. I do wish PC's had a standardised controler layout tho.

As for Half Life 2 on the X-Box, I'm all for it. I'll even rent it to take it for a run.

Good plan - i'll defineatly try HL2 on both formats :)

My experiences with shooters on consoles is that its fun, and very much possible, but not on the level you usually play on with a PC.
So from the point of view of us PC-gamers HL2 on xbox would ruin the game.
Why? Because you cant play with the style and souplesse you can play it with on your pc.
FPS on the xbox feels like typing a letter with boxinggloves on.
But, to a console gamer, it wont feel that way, they see the shiny graphics pooped out of their way-too-cheap box, together with great gameplay.
They dont know what they miss, so they wont care its less than on the PC.
