HL2 opening train ride

Well jeepers, just make yourself a permanent savegame after the bits you find boring, and start the game from there each time...

I've done that, but its the same difficulty. Is it something I didn't do?

Yes, waffles are good. :)

Oh wait... Damn! thats all I can think about now that its breakfast, oh and yeah yeah cant wait for the train ride.

Same difficulty? Sounds like you want to make a save game for each difficulty level.

I just think that is doesn't seem "odd" that gordon just waltzes into City 17 wearing a heavily armored bright orange hazard suit and nobody stops him right away

i mean i havn't seen getups like those since the 70s! somebody's bound to ask or beat the crap out of him way before he reaches teh checkpoint
Do you really think he warez the suit when he gets off the train? no hev suit hud on screen.. so he doesn't wares it.. i guess he will get it later once the action start's

edit.. I must read threads...

Ignore me!

Actually, maybe the very first fight is without the HEV, to show how much Gordie depends on the suit.

i have a feeling that they made the train ride incredibly cool b/c all of the publications that had a chance to play the 3 select levels started in the train station. i think valve didnt want them to see what we were in for on the train. i cant wait.

The train ride is my most anticipated scene. You can't do much, but you see alot of amazing things and it waters your mouth like a popsickle....

ohhh yea ;)

the good ol days playin hl1 my mom use to yell at me because I killed all the scientists.. She was like (IF YOU'RE NOT GONNA PLAY THE GAME RIGHT DONT PLAY IT) meh

Three things that I want from the train ride:

  1. We must go over a bridge of some kind
  2. It should be raining (water splashing off the windows, dark, gloomy) :)
  3. The train conductor to announce sites as they pass.

I simply want it to be as realistic as possible. That type of realism in a game can scare some people really easily. You'd be surprised.

Somehow I'm pretty sure that you will be disapointed with your third point.

"Welcome to the Black Mesa.." that part brings back memories...

Now that I think of it, you're probably right. Everything outside of City 17 is most likely a barren wasteland.

Yeah, and it also wouldn't really fit into the environment.

"To your left: A clump of dead grass. To your right: Some antlions feeding on the ragged corpse of twenty-first-century civilisation. To your left again: More dead grass and a small pack of houndeyes. Back to your right: An Ant Lion Guard. Oh, shit."

Beaten to the punch hah! :)

To your left, ladies and gentlemen you will notice a group of combine soldiers clobbering a citizen to death. And now if you will turn your attention to the right you'll see a strider shooting blue beams! Welcome to C17!

The train ride is hopefully gonna be great. I want it to build me up to a climax you can almost taste beforehand.

As for killing the scientists....

I always capped 'em in the head when I'd finished with them. Same for Barnies, although, I sometimes gave them sympathy. I guess I was just helping the military after all.

Maybe it could be all pretty landscapes and beautiful meadows until you get to City 17. And then the voice in the train says:
"Submitted for your approval: A city, much like any other. Somewhere in the vicinity of the former russian eastern europe. The city has people, much like any other city. Except; There are aliens there. And also some weird soldiers.
Prepare to enter, the twilight zone.

i think it will be lots of pretty landscapes with combine/human/alien battles along the way and Aliens wandering the fields and killing cows and things :)

Oh my god, can you imagine viewing a beautiful forest and after a while a thirty feet strider comes along, standing right in the middle of a forest fire, shooting at the ground. How cool wouldn't that look?!

I personally think it'll just be going thru a long dark tunnel then we'll come to a part which has a big hole in it and the train will come to a yield, and Gordon will look out and see probably a group of Combine excuting some resistance or something. Then the train ride will commence.

I'd rather it wasn't raining but was kind of hot, muggy and dusty. Some barren landscape but similar to what we'll be seeing - the long, windy roads along mountainsides for example. Some destroyed buildings or other evidence of destruction, and some evidence of Combine oppression and forces. But nothing from or relating to Xen, it'd be too early. If anything, only subtle references.
I would also like to see delays caused by leaves on the line.

In reference to the Uplink question, here's Mr. Laidlaw who says:
It takes place during the same time as the game, so I think of it as a parallel universe adventure, where Gordon is doing this while he's also somewhere else doing what he did in Half-Life. Maybe blame the G-Man...he seems to do the same sort of thing.

I'm sure that valve must be reading this stuff and jotting it all down....lol!! Free script writing services from HL2.net

They must be getting great ideas from stuff thats being posted in these boards...not just in this thread either!!

Tis all good!

BTW AJ Rimmer- I read your 'shift change' story and really liked it ...great work! :D You must do more of that stuff for us all to read!

THey'll need something out there to make the train ride interesting.

The tram in Half-life had you go inside and out, past a nuclear device, past many offices, over a defective tank of radiated sewage, behind closed doors, etc.

All these things made for an interesting ride. If the train lacks interesting things to look at, it will be a failure.

ya know what would be cool..... if it started you off at the end of half-life, like the beginings of halflife 2=

"Its time to choose", starting in the tram, with new graphics

Personally I hope the train ride is shorter then the first games tram ride, as it was nice the first few times, but got annoying.

i hope its longer... i hope its really cool and detailed and not like "plains"... i live in nebraska i don't know what anything else looks like lol

j/k :-D
