HL2 or CS2 Multiplayer?

I had Half Life and loved every bit of it. The multiplayer was a little pants though. And I know there is a big counter strike following, but I've never really got into it.

My question is how will HL2 multiplayer be different to CS2 multiplayer and which is best?

Valve don't tell anything related to multiplayer..
I think that hl2 multiplayer will be something quite new, and very fun.
CS2 may come, but from cliff and not valve..
Just wait and see how hl2 would be like..
AND if not the game or multiplayer rocks, some mods sure will!

Mods will rule over HL2 :D as time goes by, just like with HL1 :D, who knows

I've no shame in admitting to being a CS fanboy and I hope they keep gameplay in cs2 (if it happens) very similar to CS.

As for HL2 built in multiplayer does anyone else get sneaking feeling that team fortress2 is gonna ship with HL2?

A few years back there was media for TF2 and it all stopped when they decided to use the HL2 engine for it, there has been plenty of dev time to use put it together too. There has also been a couple of mentions of tf2 by gabe in the valve info thread. We can but hope.

counter-strike only offers one style of gameplay.. and is set in it's own universe.. cs2 multiplayer will most likely be similar to cs, but with new weapons, better graphics, and physics, it offers team based, mission based multiplayer, hl2's multiplayer uses hl2's guns instead of real life weapons (not saying hl2 doesn't have any real weapons), and will probably have some form of deathmatch along with other multiplayer playstyles (teams, point/flag capture, etc)

i did have that thought, that they might just do it to completely blow everyone away.. and get everyone to buy hl2, because "they have to, it's just such a great deal" .. but the more i think about it, the more i wonder how far they are on tf2, and why they would include it if they did, when they might be able to make more money releasing it later stand alone. but MAYBE gabe and the valve team aren't greedy bastards, and would be happy with the millions they will make collectively from hl2 alone.

the possibilities are:

hl2 ships with tf2 included for free.

hl2 ships with a trial version of tf2, (either includes limited content like a demo, or has an expiration date, which after players would be asked to buy the full version off of steam or retail)

hl2 ships alone and tf2 can be downloaded from steam for free with a verified hl2 cdkey.

hl2 ships alone and tf2 can be downloaded or bought as a mod for hl2 at a reduced price, but also can be bought as a stand a lone game for a bit more.

hl2 ships alone, and tf2 won't be available any other way then stand alone when it is completed.

i'm guessing it's going to be either the second or fifth possibility.

I'd like to see some multiplayer in the same fashion as we've seen singleplayer being played. That is, teamtactics and stuff, like one side the resistance being holed up in a building under siege by combine forces, the other side the attacking combine. Then have other levels where the resistance are attacking the combine similar to whats seen in the footage with barney.

Yeah... that'd be cool, but the mods will definitely be great if not greater (this is why it'll sell so well ^_^).

Youve got more chance of getting a hand job of the Pope than ValVe releasing that kind of information m8 .
No offence any one :)

Thankyou your eminance, you've got a bit on your sleeve..

Right, where is that info?

Seriously though I can see a tf2 release date pre-xmas if they've got it built.

Hmm Hl2 maybe will ship with the TF2 demo..

Like HL1 came with the Uplink demo wich never was done.. Maybe the Uplink comes in HL2 instead? :O

Who knows ;D

I hope CS2 comes real soon. So many ways to kill the enemy because of physics!

Let's face it, CS is very popular because, among other things, it can run on pretty much any computer.

The CS fanbase is going to, as a whole, make an upgrade if they want a CS that has a lot of server and client side physics....and I am not too sure this is going to happen right away.

But we know the Source engine has support for lower-end hardware. It will still be playable, just without the fancy graphics.

I meant more along the lines of physics.

Physics calculations take up a lot of CPU resources....as is evidenced by their inclusion in UT2003.

That is true, however I doubt anyone is playing CS on a machine that's <= 1ghz right now. I might be the only one. :(

Besides, would all CS fans upgrade their machines if it meant getting 2 more kills per game? Absolutely.

I play Eod and DC. I like EOD more but it has alot of bugs.

I heard EOD is moving to Crytek engine from Goe :/

I play CS on this comp and get good FPS but crapp ass graphics in hardware mode

Celeron 500MHZ
4MB ATI RAGE PRO
192MB RAM
10GIG HD
WIN 98 SE

I dont mind it.....Sure Im going to build a new pc for HL2

I have a feeling the HL2 muliplayer will crush anything else. I never played counterstrike or tf. mostly because i hate shitty military sims. only good one for online play is the delta force series:bounce:

I've played quite a few first person multiplayers in my time. The best for me so far is Medal of Honour Spearhead and Wolfenstein.

What I really want in a 1st person is good collision detection. So if you shoot someone in the arm they are stunned a little - a head shot kills quick.

I hate games where you shoot someone endlessly in the chest and they don't respond until they drop - it just seems so artificial. I can't actually think of many games like this - Operation Flashpoint?

I remember the original Turok Dinosaur Hunter on the N64 had some good effects here. If you shot someone in the neck the blood would spurt out - shoot them in the leg and they start hopping...

Is anyone else thinking of the joys of using a gravity gun in mp? It'll add whole new levels of compexity to the game...can you imagine somebody using their gravgun to throw a barrel at you and you catch it out of mid air with yours and chuck it right back at them!

Or, allowing you to lift members of your own team too help them reach new areas! The possibilities are endless, especially in the hands of a good mod team!

You can already rule out the second possibility. Gabe Newell has already stated that TF2 WILL NOT be included with HL2. this is already old news, i can't see how people can miss such a fact. I'd find the interview where gabe says TF2 doesn't ship with HL2, but i'm feeling rather lazy right now. Anyway, the only way anyone is getting TF2 is if a) the release it as a free mod(highly unlikely) b) Sell as a standalone(most likely) c)Make available over STEAM for a small fee(likely)

When you can be bothered could you please find that interview because AFAIK Gabe has said absolutely nothing at all about TF2 since 1999.

Gabe hasn't said a word about TF2, so Anthraxxx must be dreaming

I cant wait to play HL2 multiplayer, with any mod. Its gonna be really fun.

I get the feeling they got something big up their sleeve. Thats why they arent saying anything about MP. I dont think they will ship TF2 with HL or anything like that. But they might have something like HL2 MP, which will be something new, set maybe in HL2 areas.

Could you imagine them not releasing something MP with HL2? It wouldnt work, even though i know the mods will come, but they will need a HL MP thing to sort of base on, it will have to include MP code or something????
