I know actually that's nothing exciting to talk about. Since hl2 didn't come out, I turn my interest into other games like halo, freedom fighters, max payne 2, etc.

I have played most of the new pc games released lately. Personally, I consider that Max Payne 2 is the best among them.

Honestly, I hate Max payne 1; its gameplay is nothing more than blasting at ennemies and its story sucks also, the climax is where his wife and baby get killed and there's all. However, Max payne 2 got me by surprise. MP2 has the best storyline I have ever seen. The theme is love. Love is painful, violent, sexual, insane, greedy, poisonous, generous, emotional and sacrifying. Max payne 2 allows you to go through all the above kind of love. I particulurly like the stage where I play as Mona who has to protect Max at all costs, this stage really gets me into the story, cuz I personnally go through Mona's experience to see how much she loves Max. However late on, Mona makes Max to commit the crime then disappear, by that moment, I really want to find out what Mona is doing and dig deeper and deeper into the story as a detective.

Max payne 1&2 together can make a good detective movie that has a "film noire" story to tell. Many videogame movies suck, because they lack of story to tell, like Resident Evil. I heard that half life is going to have a movie also. Hl's science fiction story is about alien invasion which is not that originial amount these days' movies. Aliens, zombies and robots are used too much in today's movies, they used to scare people but now people are getting familiar with them. In addition, the theme in half life isn't that strong. Half life, as a videogame, is definitly a great entertaining experience, but, as a movie, it won't necessary be that good.

Do you guys think that Max payne's story can make a better movie than half life's story does ????

Max Payne, unless it's Valve and Marc Laidlaw that cook up the HL: Movie script and screenplay without much external bastardisation.

No kids, "bastardisation" is not a naughty word.

please, don't express fanboicism here, It's not a "VS" thread. It's not meant to make people hate one or another game.

Is that supposed to have some sort of relevance to my post at all?

I said that a Max Payne movie would be better. But if Valve and Marc Laidlaw can come up with a brilliant way to keep the feel of HL in a movie and execute it well then HL: The Movie would be my first choice.

How can you even look for an unbiased opinion in an HL2 forum and not a general gaming forum? I mean there's gonna be fanboys who are like "HL2 r0x0rs m@x p@ynx0rs azz!" I think personally that Max Payne would make for a better movie. Hell the game itself is laid out like one. However I think HL2's story makes for a better game.

I think that since Max Payne is presented in a cinematic way as opposed to the avenue of total interaction Half-Life uses, that Max Payne is better suited for a movie. It was made to be cinematic, Half-Life wasn't.

HL2 movie, the best historyline ever ! Who's here don't want to see a real gordon freeman fighting against the aliens ? :p

Don't get me wrong, I'm saying that to anyone who respond to the thread.

I'd rather they made a HL movie because I wouldn't be able to watch Max Payne until it comes out on video and my parents aren't home.

Yeah but in the HL movie, Alyx and Gordon are going to have sex

i'm sorry i voted max payne.

Only becuase a half-life movie would take SO MUCH MONEY to digitally create all the aliens, make it realistic.

BUT the #1 reason is becuase look at RESIDENT EVIL, great game, COULD have been a badass movie. BUT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE to fit the ENTIRE GAME into just ONE movie.

Half-life would be one LONG ASS MOFO of a movie.

Even if that were true, it still wouldn't be nearly as explicit as Max Payne.

Ahh but you've got to admit, if Valve and Marc Laidlaw were able to come up with a way to execute the film that kept the same ambience and feel of the game, with a brilliant story line that keeps in sync with the story of the game that just generally works, then you would want a HL move, wouldn't you?

As I've said many times before, people are so dead against a HL movie because they think it's going to be a flop like the other VG to movie incarnations like Super Mario Bros. and Resident Evil. Obviously that is the danger if Vivendi or Valve sell off the rights to someone who hasn't got any care for retaining the quality of the game, but if it's all executed in the right way, then it could be good.

I agree. And lets face it, 95% of your time in HL was spent on killing aliens with a shotgun in a dark hallway. Who would want to see a movie like that? :x

I have no doubt that it's possible to rewrite the HL story into a descent movie script but it's an unnecessary waste of time and money for Valve. I would much more prefer them releasing new games and expansion packs rather then working on a movie that might be good.

Who'd want to play a game like that? Boring if you look at it like that isn't it? But quite clearly there's thousands of people on this forum that liked the game and are going to enjoy a second helping with 95% of your time spent in a dynamically lit hallway, killing aliens and kicking boxes and tins and barrels around.

Yep you hit the nail on the head right there. What makes HL and HL2 so great is the interactivity with the environment, testing out the weapons against enemies, looking at the character's expressions, etc. I'm sure people here would spend hours just playing around with the physics. Seeing someone throw barrels around on a movie screen would be boring and at best somewhat funny.

I want to see it, but fighting doesn't tell the story. A good movie must tell a good story.

Btw, if Matrix Reload didn't have that old man in a room full of monitors talking at the end revealing what matrix and Neo are about, Matrix Reload sucks as hell. The action sucks man, too much computer graphics which make me feel like watching cartoon, and these people fighting with Chinese martial arts moves so badly, I feel like watching they are dancing. Chinese martial arts require long, hard and endurant pratices, some of my friends have been praticing since age of 3 years old, whenever you see these guys doing sport, you can tell they are real martial art people. Fortunatly, Jet Li refuse to take role in Matrix, I don't want to see him acting with some unprofessionals.

I chose Half Life because I'd rather want to see how all the aliens and stuff would look. Why have a movie with just humans when you can have all those cool HL aliens.

Max Payne definatly, MP2 has the perfect film noir storyline, would make an awesome movie.

Max Payne 2 is practically a movie, you have to stop every 2 feet to watch some sort of cutscene. i paid for a GAME not a damn interactive movie. so yeah, max payne 2 would make a better conversion to film. HL is just too good to ruin it with a movie version. if i was directing a HL movie, i'd definitely put it out for art house release only, as it's not something the mainstream 'stupid cinema goers' would want to see. but max payne, yeah, a born cheesy summer action film.

Max Payne 2 all the way. The game reminds me of a Michael Connelly book.

Half Life would make a better saturday morning cartoon.

I wanna see a movie made using the Half Life 2 engine though, does that count?

Who would want to see a movie like that?

Me !

I want to see it, but fighting doesn't tell the story. A good movie must tell a good story.

Bah, you understood. You don't have a mind like this, do you ?

Face it, Valve won't let anyone make a film out of HL, unless they get to keep it the way they like it. And that's not gonna happen with a big film studio at least. Hell, they're writing a Deus Ex film right now, which is really too bad, since that game actually has potential to be a decent movie. It's just that fitting a 40-50h video game into a two hour film is just pretty much impossible. In order to succeed, you'd have to have some seriously skilled script writers/actors/directors. Unfortunately, these kind of projects tend to be given to nobodies who then try to make the best out of it (which is not much...).

Am i the only one who thinks a film noir style movie with bullet time would just be wrong? It's not like you could have max payne WITHOUT bullet time is it? It's what the games popularity is based upon.

hmmm.... it would certainly be, erm, interesting (read as: "strange and wrong")

At least a HL2 movie could be big budget, alien ass kicking, head exploding fun :) The nerd who kicks ass!!!!!

*snip* Infact, both would be crap...

Maybe Gordon cuts himself a slice of pie in Half life 2, we don't know the whole story after the 'your staring at me again, Gordon...' :naughty:

Still that begs the question who would make a good Alyx

Max Payne is already labled as a "film noir" (or whatever they used) and is a few steps short of the game being a film.

Call me a cynic, but I don't think they'd pull it off if they did try to make a good Half-Life movie. I just hope that the name will remain exclusive to the game series.

And correct me if I'm mistaken, but wasn't Max Payne already picked up for a movie?

no! i dont want another game to movie conversion!! All ****in suck ass..total ass. I can't stand even watching 10 minutes of one.

I dont want anything negative attributed to half-life, so dont make a crumby holly-wood big budget bull**** movie. please!

Neither.

I think game stories would best work out as TV mini-series...think about how much story you can fit into that, vs. a 2 hour movie.

But neither had cinematic quality storylines to really work in a movie. I'd personally say Deus Ex The Conspiracy has the best story of any game I've played.

Well, let's look at Max Payne for example. Most of it is just going through the levels, shooting at enemies. They're not gonna fill the movie with that, but instead with what the graphic novels contain. So length isn't the issue here.

Completely off topic, but alco, awesome avatar, Homesar is teh win!~ :)

anyway, as for the actual topic at hand, I'd have to say Max Payne would make a good movie, HL/2 would be too hard to pull off

Max Payne without a doubt.

Its much more story driven than Half-Life, and its like a movie already… just like The Getaway on PlayStation2. :)

Hmm.. I dont like the style of story in MP2, so I vote HL, allthough I *do* think MP would make a better movie.. I just would not see it.

Max payne.

i dont think ppl want to go see a movie where the final big bad ass is a fat baby who just dies and the credits start rolling.

so in short Max payne any day and twice on a sunday.

max payne Cause WOW    the second is great but the ending is sad ;( ;(
