The TI4200 is still an excellent card, my brother plays Far Cry on medium details with it and it's fine.

yeah the Geforce4 Ti's are still excellent. I can run FarCry with med/high settings and it runs fine. Besides I dont really care if I lose a few shaders, in the end its the gameplay that counts

This baby has served me well.. through Max Payne 2, Far Cry, and Counter-Strike (althought the HL Engine isn't exactly..well..demanding). However, I think I'll probably be upgrading my video card before the end of the year.

I'm planning on grabbing a ATi Radeon 9800 Pro and some other fun stuff this weekend though.

If you didn't know/thought that some of these parts didn't exist, etc, then maybe you should read up on them.
Now, if you have any questions for me great, hope i cleared up some stuff.
PS: I dont what it is shuzer/shapeshifter that makes you guys feel so compelled to HAVE to argue about whether hard drives are a factor or not, and whether my specs are irrevelent or not. Does it really bother you SO MUCH that you must flame in the thread about how some of the specs i posted are irrevelent? Well if you find it that important, go ahead and rant all you want. Just thought i would share what im gonna play hl2 with the forum community because i thought some ppl would be interested. i wasnt really expecting ppl to start a war about it though...nothin personal against u guys, i dont even know who you are, it just seems odd to me why ppl will argue and call ppl morons... from a harmless little thread

If I wasn't strapped for cash (being a student and all ;( ) I'd buy a 9800 pro right now. Unfortunately I'm stuck with a GF4 Ti4200. Any ideas how this will hold up at 1024x768 (the dimentions I like to run at) as far as quality? Processor is an overclocked Athlon XP 2400+, and 512Mb RAM if that helps.

but if you really want to upgrade but can't afford the best of the best cards like 9800 and above, then try going for a 9700Pro or a 9600Pro/XT. I've got a 9600 Pro and it runs everything perfectly (except DX:IW and T3, lousy engine)

I would just like to take this opportunity to say that the GeForce 4 Ti4200 is a great graphics card (because I own it). :cheese: So far it has run any game I have thrown at it without flinching, and I can overclock it easily. So there.
Just as a side topic, how do you guys go about overclocking? For my graphics card, I use a program called powerstrip (http://entechtaiwan.net/util/ps.shtm) and it has worked very well for me. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to have a go at overclocking.
One of it's best features is that you can set up hotkeys for adjusting memory and clock speeds. So if you're running a game and it slows down, hit you're hotkeys to crank the overclock up a notch. Easy, but don't get carried away (I speak from experiance. ;( )!

And while I am posting, it is obvious that serum is excited about his "dream PC", but I can imagine Gabe and the the guys sitting around a PC reading serum's question and rofling about how serum feels it necessary to mention the 480W Power Supply he has just in case it may squeeze out some extra performance in HL2.

Ill probably run it in 1024x768 mode. My comp should give me a smooth frame rate. Anything over 60 fps is undetectable to the human eye, so I should have no worries at all.

besides that, its not like there is one valve employee who does everything and therefore gets his work delayed because he is reading emails. they probably have some employees who just read/reply to emails and handle all that stuff.
