HL2 physics vs Honda Accord commercial "cog"

ok i read the answer to my question before but it wasnt really clear

how did they make the tires go up hill with such little force

i hear that it was actually 2 shots, combined together into one thing near the middle, simply because the studio wasnt big enough

edit: hmmm, i only read the first page :D didnt know someone else said that

Not to be a smartass, but can you point to some kind of proof of this?

I've seen countless articles indicating that the advert was 1 take, 1 room and absolutely NO CG.

I, on the other hand have only read 1 article that states it was 1 take...obviously they didnt bother doing any research.

Two... Okay ?

Two peices, not two takes...it took 606 takes.

//Edit: Just re-read through this thread, its amazing how many people give into hype as opposed to fact...sheesh

Also, PrimalGod, that is the e-mail I was refering to(or one extremely similar)...I forgot the random number could be seeded. So I guess it is possible, at a high cost.

I'd shoot myself after the 50th take probably....I just don't have that kind of patience for things so trivial....

That or I'd go nuts and destroy the set...

Not even for $1.25 Million?

Imagine the few takes that actually made it all the way to the end only to have that last falling bit miss the key!

Some of it looks a little fishy to me (like the fact that the third wheel continues to roll up the ramp after it hits the fourth and suddenly stops without wanting to travel back down the ramp) but I'll buy that it was real.

I'd gladly accept, but if I were the camera-man that had to do all this over and over and over....that's where I'd flip out. Now...if cameramen got paid 6 figures....then I'd be the happiest helpful amateur cameraman out there :)

The tires are weighted...watch the way they kinda "stutter" as they roll...you can see the wight shifting.

Camera man is the easy part...the frustrating thing would be the engineers having to reset everything maticulously and precisly 606 TIMES!!! :p

in what other game can you rip things up re-align them, put corregated iron on top of it, drums behind it to support weight, spawn a jeep and ramp over your own make shift ramp
Im dying for this game
just to twiddle with all the physics possibilities

hey... I work at EB Games and I happen to notice that our dates are often wrong, but they are right more often than funcoland, circuit city, or any of the other big name stores.

Well, lets just hope the most recent HL2 date is correct :O :D

Thanks for the links, chief!
To be completely honest, even that "one second of CG" kinda spoils the whole thing for me, though.

excuse me for being dumb,
how do you weight something to roll uphill?? im trying to grasp the concept but i justs caint

You can weight it at the rolling edge just back from the rolling point, and with the slightest tap it'll roll forward. They put enough weight on that certain area so that it rolled uphill.

ahh of course, top heavy, pushed from left, rolls up, neurons in gear!
