HL2 Preload = Spoilerama = Avoid Forums?

Since the script leak with the CS:S files, I'm wondering if post HL2 preload would be a good time to absent oneself from the forums for a few days. I thought the files were encrypted and unusable, but apparently people can extract things out of them at will.

Given, the preload is only textures and sounds, but I don't want to show up on a forum and here and have somebody tell me there's a sound file they listened to where Barney explains how Alyx is dating Dr Kleiner and they're expecting a little Vortigant any time now.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The mods here are pretty vigilant (when they're here) and any thread that isnt appropriatley titles will most definitley be deleted.

That's the problem though. When they're not here, and someone comes and posts a thread with a spoiler in the title you've already read it and it won't get deleted right away. Even when the mods are around, you could just be browsing the forum and you just happen to refresh like 5 seconds after someond makes a spoiler thread and you'll see it. I wish there was some kind of system where threads had to be screened by mods before they could be posted and seen so there won't be any spoilers but we would need many more mods and it would probably take a while.

I am seriously thinking about leaving these forums before any more of the game is ruined by morons with nothing better to do than post spoilers revealed from the leaked script!

I just came back from a holiday today to take part in a rather innocent looking thread about children and City 17.

Unfortunately many of the game's plot points have been revealed by some moron. I need to vent my anger out somehow!!! :angry: :angry:

if there's something important we should know about related to half life 2 and its not a spoiler than it will be posted on the main site. thats why i only go to the forums when some news is posted.

I'm worrying a lot about the same thing. We are going to live a very special month in this forum since we are going to wait a entire month with a lots of contents in our hard disks and lots of retarded people spoiling things every day.

So moderators, perhaps would be good to add a sticky thread: "People who spoil intentionally anything about hl2 will be banned and the spoiler threads closed".

Funny, but texture names can spoil quite a bit... like if they were to have XEN_PLANTS.TGA or SUPER_NIHILANTH_TENTACLE_STINGER.TGA or EVIL_BARNEY_FACE.TGA some such (I made all those up for those fearful I am revealing things, here.)

That's the guy. I didn't even realize it until he said he personally read the entire script in the thread. Then while scanning the rest of the forum for other topics (by obviously reading the thread titles), the same guy had made multiple threads, each one containing a probable spoiler in the thread title. :rolling:

I was about to report him when I refreshed my browser only to find that a moderator had thankfully removed the threads from the forum before more damage was done. :bounce:

Sadly there seems like there is no way to stop this from happening. There are loopholes in the system, and trying to fix them would put strain on the community as a whole.

Only two or three key plot points (out of an personally estimated 20+) were revealed so I hope the game can pull out many surprises. These were no doubt some big ones though, and it's upsetting to have these revealed to me without my own free will. I hope no one else will be affected by further spoilers - believe me it's very infuriating and dissapointing. :frown:
It's like having some guy reveal the surprise twist at the end of The Empire Strikes Back a la the Simpsons. Things like this totally change the way you will view the movie.

Well enough complaining, what's done is done (unfortunately). I tip my hat off to the moderators, they're quicker than you think.
