I just got a brand new computer specs are

Athlon 64 3000
1gb pc3200
BFG geforce 6800 oc

One of the problems is whenever i run hl2 sometimes it just freezes, then returns to the game. Another problem is sometimes it freezes then crashes to desktop and it says failed to allocate memory. And the last problem is, sometimes the computer just restarts itself!!!!!

I tried updating to the latest drivers (version 66.93 right?) and it doesnt work! it always says that one or more microsoft installation are active and its the only window open!!! Can someone help me with this to?? I'M SO MAD!!!!!!!

Sounds like your computer is overheating or that your memory could be faulty. Go download motherboard monitor and check the temps.

Not your case...

Download motherboard monitor and check how warm the CPU and Mobo is.

yes, press your wrist up against the case to check the temperature.

Then do what I always do if a game is giving me trouble on a new system. See if other games give you troubles.

If so, go to www.computing.net and do a search.

Also, are you saying you've overclocked your GFX card? reset that first.

no.. it came overclocked bfg makes overlclocked cards. also i dont get motherboard monitor, how do i check the cpu and motherboard temperature? also my computer just restarted again and im not even in a game:(

holy crap!!!!!! it says my case is at 126 degrees C and cpu is at 126 degrees C!!!!!!!!!!! thats high right?!?!?!?!?!?!

erm, you should have a 40-50 degree cpu temp and approx 30 degree case, i think something has crapped out inside your computer, its nothing to do with HL2.

time for a new computer, this time install fans and don't overclock.

126 degrees? Holy christ. Are you sure you're reading it right and its not 126 degrees Fahrenheit? Cuz 126 C is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy too hot! Do you have a case that can open easily? If so, turn on the computer with it open and make sure all your fans are working okay. It sounds like maybe you've got a problem with your case fans or your CPU heatsink fan. The fact that you can still use your computer when not playing a game is odd though....But yeah, check your heatsink fan. Does that motherboard program you use report the RPM speed of the fans? If so, you may also wanna check the speed of your CPU fan, it could be going slow or something.

I highly doubt it. A CPU at that temperature would almost certainly burst into flames. It's possible that you're either getting degrees C mixed up with degrees F, or the software or sensors involved in getting the data are wrong (I've got some stupid readings from these things all the time).

Do other modern games cause you troubles as well? If yes it's quite likely that yes, your computer is operating far too hot and you've got to improve the airflow somehow. When I got my Radeon 9800 Pro in 2003, I put into the case i'd been using for about 4 years and it would just freeze up after a small ammount of time running the then graphically intensive games (Unreal 2 / UT2003). A good way to check whether your PC is overheating when you play Half-Life 2 would be to play it for about an hour with the case or sides of the case off. Just don't let any food/drink/bodyparts/household pets get inside! If you find it's overheating, buy some more fans or get a bigger, better case to house it all in. It's frustrating to have to transfer everything to a new case, especially after you've forked out for the new upgrades, but that's just the way it goes :/

Arf you've got one melted CPU and from the sounds of things probably your case to after its melted scupt into a large RIP and stick it into your fridge for 5 hours mourn vigourasly for 3 days then head on down to www.mesh.com and buy a nice new spangly PC. If you can't afford remorgage house if you don't have a house sell kidney on black market, if you don't have any kidneys you are probably dead.

You've got your sensors wrongly done. Read on the site how they are set up.

Yeah. A friend of mine has a pc with an athlon64 2200+ and he says his sensors read 110C I told him "Holly shit! Your processors probabbly already a big ball of solder with transistors sticking out of it!" he said no worries, the tempurature reading modules on the proc were faulty. He said he was really pleased with the deal he got on it though so he didn't return it.

Told me he later checked it out with some third party tempurature reading modules (like the ones that come with cases) and he was idling at like, 35 or so.

Either that or your getting C mixed with F. I wouldn't doubt it. That looks like an ok temp on load in F.
