Just because they play music you dont like dosnt mean they suck. Dont base your answer on their music...

I dont think the ppl talking are doing that great a job either hmm but I havent listended to them for that long period of a time..

Kind of boring, they are just restating information I have already heard. I hope they can get some Valve employees on there.

They are absolute failures. Unprofessional, shitty music, and incorrect information propogated by their noob DJ's. I appriciated the effort until they decided to be asshats and ban me for saying they play techno.

They should have spent a week dry running the station offline before bringing it online, it sounds like they are learning as they are going along.

i told them that steam wont be on single player and lan after about 2 weeks, they were all like, well um i never heard of that.

lol and they own hl2 sites.

So now "asshats" are a genuine HL2.net word or is it only part of omlettes vocabulary? :)

Welcome to the forums.

If u think they are good plz state why we wont flame you. (PS: Guys dont flame ppl that like the HL² radio plz)

anyone know where you can requesto to be a DJ? I think i could actually save this radio station.

Well i think its greate that someone acually does things like this, i rather sit and listen to stuff then browsing around. I think what they are doing are awesome.

They sucked, they had no straight information that most of us here most likley know. For example they didn't get the whole Fog problem correct. Who ever was speaking said that the ATI Radeon card was the one screwing up the fog when it was, in fact, the NVIDIA cards. There's even a statement from NVIDIA mentioning this fact. It was in teh response to the benchmarks. These guys really need to do their homework better if they want to do even a somewhat good job.

Yes, what they are doing is indeed a good idea, they have just jumped into the whole operation without any idea of what to do.
They may be tech testing but they still need to plan out the show beforehand instead of just kicking the ball around as they go.

They need to study the HL2 info very carefully before their next show as their inaccuracies and poor casting is really ruining the whole thing.

The only decent presenter in there was that american guy who was chatting about linux, his voice and radio manners were fine, everyone else were either clueless or so apathetic that they just ruined the whole experience.

For example, the american presenter asked a gaming chick:
"I tried to play Natural Selection but I couldn't get into it, what is it about?"
To which the gaming chick replied with an answer about how she prefers a certain player class in the game.....
He didn't ask her for her personal class preference, he asked her to give the listener a quick run down on what NS is all about.
(It's also worth noting that they thought NS was a valve connected product, the NS website FAQ clearly states that Valve have only helped the NS crew in regards to a few tech related questions, otherwise they have no affilation with Valve at all.)

If they'd get themselves in order and find some decent presenters who actually have radio voices and half a clue as to the facts and fallacies of the whole HL phenomenon, then they'd actually be worth listening to, dispite the rather dodgy music preferences.

Thank youfor that well written and brilliant conclusion BloodyL, however I think you failed to mention that nobody seems to enjoy their music...

Anyways the numbers talk for themselves! 80% Nay and 20% Yes and its been like that since the tenth vote. :)

Good luck HL2 radio, I bet everyone are ready to give you guys a secound chance!

About Half-Life Radio

Our perspective is simple. Nobody knows everything and we're all in this together. Half-Life Radio is for the Gamer. We have real people on the air that play this game. It's not a show that we practice on prior to broadcast. It will never be a show like that. Half-Life Radio is about the human side of things as it is in real-time.

We are not trying to impress anyone, nor are we trying to entertain anyone. We understand that we cannot play music that is fit for everyone. That is impossible. We have 3 different demographics who listen to the radio and that doesn't even include the European market.

We're not on the air to play your favorite songs. We're on the air to talk about Half-Life 2. Half-Life Radio is about online gaming and that's been our mission statement since day one. Unfortunately some of you only tuned in last night and never heard the previous broadcasts. Some of you take a few cons of the broadcast and make it a big deal when the pros outweight the cons.

Out of the 731 unique gamers who listened, there are between 50 - 60 people who don't like Half-Life Radio. We went into this venture knowing that there will always be about 10% of listeners who think the show will "suck" or full of "newbs". So far we are on target and if you don't like the show, don't listen.

If you expected a show where we pre-canned the broadcast with plastic announcers, then you didn't understand our mission statement. Half-Life Radio is about real people who play the game.

Some people asked why we had a "14 year-old" on the air with us last night. Well we had many people with us on the air. We had 14 year olds, 20 year olds, 30 year olds, and 40 year olds. We also had a mix of all races and both male and female.

If you actually listened to the broadcast, the "14 year-old" is a cartoonist who has done work in the community. He is known in the community. He is also a map level designer/editor.

I don't care what age you are, or if you're voice sounds young or old. This is about playing a game. This would not be a real show if we just had plastic announcers online who played your favorite songs.

If you don't like the show, just don't listen.

I will probably not be back on this website ever, so I won't be reading the replies. However, someone asked me to address this thread so I did.

Personaly i thought it was cool, its a bunch of like minded gamers seeing this for the first time like we all are, sure they dont know everything, but then the majority dont either, and there not just there to answer repetative question and play random music, and some of there plans ive heard about sound pretty cool as build up to the old september 30th dealy :)

Everyones entitled to there opinion, but instead of flaming, why not set up somthing yourself, instead of trolling other peoples work, at least there pro active.

Just my opinion, nothing more.

Whether you come back to read this or not, as an avid radio listener over many years, I'd like to offer some constructive criticism for you.

You stated that "nobody knows everything", while this may be true, the show consistently proved that "somebody knows nothing", you all spoken many innacuracies during your show, and if you remember about those listeners you are aiming for, they are looking to you for the info on the best game series around, if you start pumping out false information to your crowd then your mission is a failure.

I wouldn't consider guest screening as "plastic announcers", some people simply do not work right on the radio, the NZ guest was a prime example with his three worded sentences and monosyllable vocabulary.
(not to mention that he sounded like he was eating during the interviews.)
I presume you were the american guy I was talking about who was discussing the servers being run on Linux?, your work was fine, it was everything else that killed it all.

Also worth noting is the simple fact that the wrong voice in radio can kill the show stone dead, what good is a radio show for the people when everyone cringes at the sound of a really poor radio voice?

A radio show portraying the human aspect sounds good in theory, but in practice makes for very bad radio, people tune in to hear well thought out discussions and smooth interlacing from interview to interview, not a hodge podge of silences and off the cuff QA sessions.

It's all well and good declaring the station "by the people, for the people" but a radio station must work harder than a TV broadcast to present itself to its audience in a decent manner, otherwise it just becomes an auditorial version of a busy IRC channel with everyone jumping in at the same time trying to air their own views.

I understand how timezones can create dead air, but last nights show was so full of silences I wasn't sure whether you'd gone offline or I'd gone deaf.
The remote locality of the interviews also means that an ad-libbed interview will simply fall apart, as it did several times last night, a pre-considered interview list would certainly help out in that regard.

I'm not saying you should can the whole deal up in a pre-packaged easy to chew form, I'm just saying that tech test or no tech test, a freeform radio station will not sound as professional or as inviting to the audience as you might think.

Please, don't get me wrong here, after the initial shock, I do wish you the best of luck, I just think that you need to consider the organisational aspect of the station that little bit more. (And change your playlist! ;))

Good luck.
