hey,

i was but a wee nipper-snapper when hl1 was born (nipper-snapper is a kid to yee of little english *true english!*)

But i was wondering if the release for that (or if you know about the release for hl2) was/will be simultaneous world wide?

eg. me in england, will get it same time bob from pinecreek in america? or tai foo tea in china?

I dont wanna be sat a day waiting for it to be shipped !

Muchos Gracias.

Last I checked it will be a worldwide release date, to ensure that Steam doesn't get any upper hand over the publisher in some countries.

i wudn't mind seeing people with steam being able to download the last part they need before me (buying retail) as then we all get to play the same time :)

I think i'd be cool to have a counter to show how many ppl r playing on steam/retail/CE at that time, just for the first week or so. To watch it tick up at like 100 a second for the first hour :E

Anyways, yeah :) thanks.

They were saying at first that it'd be a worldwide retail release, then later I think Gabe was quoted as saying it hadn't been finalised yet.

I've just sent an e-mail to Doug so I'll post the e-mail if I get a response.

I'm getting it on Steam anyway. I'm not bothered about getting it the first day it's released, I want it the very second it's released ;)

Half-Life Radio says the UK will get it 2 weeks later.
?

Don't take my word as fact, HL Radio just said it.. (Have been saying it for a while now)

"wee nipper-snapper"
hmm...i think this world wide release date thing is a nice idea and all.. but its gonna be a bit complicated to say the least.

i mean sure u can purchase it through Steam.. that is.. well if u have a credit card to begin with.. and if u have grumpy parents.. well good luck to ya :p
also...its almost guaranteed to be released at time when somewhere in the world its gonna be like 2AM in the morning... yeah i can see the concundrom.. "stay up late to play HL2 or go to bed in time to wake up for school/work" :E

yeah...even a world wide release isn't perfect ;)

It will be released at the same time throughout the world on Steam, however with hard retail copies the USA will get it first with the rest of the world getting it a few days later.

Well I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting the Collectors Edition In A Box, and is going to dedicate a corner of my room to the praise of Halflife¹ and ².

omg 2 weeks wait for the UK? no way! i'll definitley get it through steam if thats the case...but i want a box (gordon on the cover) :(

For those who speak true English, the correct term is whipper-snapper. Surely?

I'm livid...2 weeks more? Surely it can be such a large gap between the USA and the UK, cmon guys we are all pals right? This is just a low blow :( :imu:

I'm actually wondering if any US company would do a big favour to us in other countries. Pay for a hard copy and ask the retailer to open the box and relay the cd key. Then send the hard copy.
I'd certainly pay for it, might even get a cd key early.

If a worldwide release does happen, I'll get it from gameplay. Doom 3 arrived a day early!

If thats true then Vivendi/Valve have learn nothing from Doom 3. Which came a few weeks later in Europe, but was already warezed by many who couldn't wait before it got here...

I guess...but id software didn't have Steam...so I think those that can't wait for it can get it off Steam. If not, I'm tipping they will have an extremly hard time warezing it anyway. :rolling:

Doubt it, the warez version will most likely be out before HL 2 is released, unless Valve has found a way to prevent that.

Just hope they don't use that crappy Starforce protection , cause that shit can really mess your PC up badly.

well if valve knows the copy protection will be cracked, they will probably end up releasing it on steam first after all. vivendi gets a cut anyway. its better for both valve and vivendi if the would-be pirates buy a steam copy instead of getting a free copy.

are you sure Vivendi will allow valve to release the game online before it hits stores? that's why i thought valve had to wait for copies to be in stores at least in the US to release it through steam. if valve can release the game through steam to the rest of the world before stores have it, vivendi is just really stupid. good for you, bad for business.

well if they don't release it on steam first and a boxed copy gets out, its going to get warezed to hell, but if they released on steam first before they ship the boxes out, some of those pirates might buy the game since a lot are impatient, which could equal profits for both valve and vivendi. i doubt vivendi will let that happen though

OMG..sorry dude, but its acctualy "whipper Snapper".. try this..

A "whippersnapper" is an impertinent young person, usually a young man, whose lack of proper respect for the older generation is matched only by his laziness and lack of motivation to better himself.

There ya go, from a 36 year old Englishman who has a top class education..lol ;)
