Is it possible to buy the HL2 soundtrack without buying the gold package? Because I really like the music, but I really don't want to pay 90 dollars for all of that other stuff I already got through the bronze package.

You can just take the music from the game itself.

cant download it, anywhere else and how does it work? can you change the music files to mp3"s?

has anyone converted them and pasted them on a website to download, becuase i cant get gfc scape to work and i really couldnt be bothered. Can someone direct me to a place i can download mp3 versions of the hl2 soundtrack? i really want to listen to it since i finished the game.

Don't think it would be legal posting parts of games for free on the net.

Who wrote the music ?
The credits weren't much of a help...

parts? music man music, theres nothing illegal, i own the game, i just dont know how to extract the files and i really want to listen to them like a soundtrack cd or mp3 list than play the game to hear them.

There's nothing to extract. You have to go into the game files, HL2/sound/music/... or something and you have it all there. You can even listen to the voices and other delicious goodies.

Stop being so damn lazy. Do it yourself. Download microsoft framework 1.1 from here Framework 1.1

Then download the .GCF scape. if you cant d/l it from that link find another one by googling it. Then use GCF scape to open the Source Sounds.gcf in your steam folder. Then you have all the music from the game. Oh and one more thing stop being lazy, and search the forums, and asking other people to do it. You want it...you do it. I've helped you enough.

Just go to the HL2 folder and search it there... though some sound files need GCFscape.

Probably, but such are the sacrifices required, if you want to listen to the tracks.

To those who say that I can get the music from the game files. I've gone to C:/Valve/SteamApps/hboakba/games/hl2/* And have yet to see any music files, or even sound files.

And it seems the site GCFscape is on is messed up, considering every link leads to the same page.

I have what your looking for!

I have the HL2 audio files. I recommend using GCFScape to obtain them, but you can get them from me if you want. Please don't be lazy and just email me for them, try GCFScape first, it's really freakin' easy. Anyways, just hit me up if you need help and take a look at LimeWire and do a search, chances are you will see them after I put them in my share folder. Ciao

What I'm interested in is the difference in quality between the GCFScape method of extracting the files from the game versus the soundtrack CD. Usually when I burn audio files to a CD and play it in a stereo I notice the quality is lacking (i.e. the bass has less of a punch). It's understandable that as you keep changing formats (copy from cd to pc, copy from pc to cd, etc.) more and more quality is lost along the way, but is it true in this case?

Did the CD version released by Valve get the studio treatment, or did they just take the files and simply burn them from the game to a CD (like people in this thread are suggesting)?

QUESTION: There's a sweet techno song that occurs at "Route Kanal" just after Barney drops you the crow bar, and you blast through the railroad yard...., the same song occurs later in the game when you're running the beach with your AntLion friends with the hammer towers pounding the ground, and the enemy is machinegunning you from the gaurd towers.... does anyone know the title or track number? HL2= great!

The copies are both digital PCM; there's no loss of quality, unless you're burning the ingame music files (192kbps MP3) to CD.

It's likely the change you're hearing is the different set of speakers and hifi.

Damn lazy noobs, like Glenn said, work it out for your selves.

"How to use GCFscape?" "What type in google?"

Its not that hard, just search for what you want and RTFM!
