was bored so i decided to make my first thread.

what kind of things to u think will be in the hl2 story, what kind of ending would u like to see/how do u think the ending will be.

personally i think that the aliens from the first HL have taken earth, and that new alien race (the 'combine') is threatening to take over. not really sure how things will end, any suggestions and ideas would be cool ta

I think they will reveal the G-Man's true identity as a friend or foe. From what I've seen in the videos I can't really fathom anything of the storyline except perhaps the humans (eg, Dr Kleiner) having a far greater level of control over teleportation technology, and Gordon will be teleported all over the place.

I think it would be better playing the game knowing the backstory form Hl1 but without any biased opinions or predetermined feelings of how or what should or could be so if the story doesn't go the way you thought it would be best you won't be dissapointed. Besides I don't think most people would want to speculate or would be able to speculate on the ending of a game that most people have not played. Needless to say whatever the story is of Hl2 it should be good.

Right now it looks like earth has been taken over by a force known as the combine, which has established a totalitarian rule over earth and it's inhabitants. It would a good guess to say Gordon was found/recruited by a resistance organization in City 17 to help the good fight. The Combine probably use humans as slave labour, and Gordon and co. go in to save people from prison style labour camps to get more people to fight. Why all the Black Mesa people are in Eastern Europe is beyond me, and I bet the G-Man is the mastermind of all this (unless there is someone above him).

There's most likely someone with a higher 'rank' than G-man... Here's a transcript from the game:

That’s why I’m here, Mr. Freeman. I have recommended your services to my employers, and they have authorized me to offer you a job. They agree with me that you have limitless potential.

Other than that, I think you guys summed it up... I can only wish (although that's a bit...Hmm, very naive) that the US Marines & Adrian Shepperd will show up again.

HL2 Story - Years later of the incident on black mesa, the earth was dominated by one special unknown forces called "The combine". We don't know who they are... or what they are, but we know they are trying to eliminate the human race. Why ? To stop us to make the experiments involving temporal paradoxs and make the earth the aliens paradise.

HL2 Ending - We all die, giving our place to the aliens and the evolution starts again....

*taum taum taum taum...*

:p

I'm so booored...

I can see two posibilities:

Either Gordon will completely save the Earth from whatever mysterious threat is endangering it, or HL2 will end on a cliff-hanger, Gordon having bought the world some time, ready for HL3.

Heres one.

G-man is employed by the ALIENS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Combine are takin over the GALAXY enslaving humans AND aliens hence the human/alien hybrid forces.

Gordon fights the combine and any aliens who are too unintelligent to distinguish between freind or foe.

The combine invasion of the galaxy was all kicking off DURING black mesa. Black Mesa was the counter measure facility to combat the combines plans. Black Mesa was just the preamble, City 17 is the real deal.

Hows that 4 a story????????

I think one of the chracters will betray you, at some point. I also think the G-man will be Gordon's greatest ally.
-Ghost.

the combine are humans from the future taking the entire PAST over, not just the galaxy, humans of the present are fighting because the combine is obviously a bad thing... and the gman is gordon from the future, "employed" by their higher ups of xen. WIN

No, wait.

If the gordon freeman from the past dies, the g-man will die too... and why the g-man give options to Gordon to choose if he will work or die ?

Past man = Die
Future man = Never existed.

The Combine

To combine means taking two things and putting them together, right? I think we'll see some pretty weird doo-doo of alien-human inter-breeding going on.

Yep, that strider you just killed could have been your brother.

Trippy, here comes that whole "Temporal Paradox" thing again

But wait! G-Man knew he would choose to live, because he chose to live when he had to make the decision in Gordon's place! lol. Point is... it's a game! Anything is possible in a game. Don't expect G-Man to be future Gordon. G-Man is a total sissy.

BTW... G-Man = Government Man

I was wondering about training I mean you won't have the hazard course this time and there are probably new moves and stuff.

well that would make sense if time was on one slate, but we use dimensions... i dont want to get into the techside but two lifes can live in two different times becuase one time doesnt effect the other since it has already happend... if something happens it happens no matter what and that time frame is saposed to keep going, if someone goes back in time and changes that, then a new time frame goes on, but the old one is still there too... from the change on it starts a new time with new things being created... so it doesnt change the future. just makes a different one... if any of that makes sense its kinda hard to explain.. i tried to make it as simple as i could without getting techy

I think what you're trying to say is parallel universes. Go pick up a copy of Scientific American if you want to read up on that.

I think the story will go as follows: The Combine are some kind of alien brute force that is starting to take over the earth, eating up cities with that huge tower thing. They'll be, like someone mentioned, a cross between two things. Maybe alien and human, or machine, or whatever. You can judge this by the way some of the larger enemies, such as the Strider, seem to have organic parts as well as machine.

There will be an underground resistance among the citizens. Gordon will be sent in to bring down the Combine, sort of like he brought down Zen all by himself, but in disguise as a normal citizen (how else would he do it? Can’t just go storming the gates). Somewhere in there, somehow, he meets up with his old pals from Black Mesa. The G-Man, just like in the last game, has been dispatched to take care of an abnormal "alien threat", and is, in a sense, thinking of the better good of the entire world. So he quite possibly will be a powerful and great ally.

Somewhere in some article I read, I think it was in some magazine, said that some Zen aliens will be on your side this time. As there are headcrabs and zombies still, I believe that the ones on your side will be FORCED to be on your side, or otherwise persuaded. Maybe some chose, and some didn’t. Who knows.

I believe there will be some teleportation aspects to the game, but not very much more than what was in Black Mesa.

That’s my theory. :smoking:

LOL, there's a magazine called Scientific American? What an oxym... naah I won't say it. :p

I don't care what the story is,as long as it's good,and as long as there'll be a HL3.

At the ending of HL2, everyone shakes hands and then comes to my house and gets drunk.

I haven't read through all this thread and so this might have already been said, but time travel is a definate thing in HL2, and in fact I think we as Gordon wake up in the "future" not knowing what is going on. I also think that Gordon is G-Man, and that when the game ends, he will end up having to go back in time as G-Man for some reason, and TA-DA, the beginning of HL1!!!

And on HL3 you will able to play with G-Man when he go back in time.

Now, G-Man (gordon) have to save the G-man from the future and the gordon freeman because one super combine is able to travel in time too and he is now an threat to Gordon life.

Here is my theory

I would say that the combine are some sorta military group incharge of the aliens. They are probably employed by some higher power that is obviously trying to take over earth, the aliens aren't friend or foe. They are simply controlled, either by the scientist or the combine. They are an allie to the combine, in that they can use the alien force to create chaos. And in the chaos instead of having to take over a world ready to fight, they are taking over a world demolished by the alien force, I would say the human race is basically being pushed around and used for construction. Gordon freeman i imagine would be a target for the combine for several reasons: One that cool suite he is wearing, two he is strong willed able to fight so they consider him a threat to becoming a strong leader. (when the nazis took jews into concentration camps the more intellegent and and strong leaders were killed first, this was to prevent any kind of resistance) I imagine that the G-Man and his employers are not totally involved in the combine, they are not quite neutral but don't take a side exactly. I think Gordon will be playing a sorta "under cover" role to try and spy on the G-Man. But is of course on the humans side ;). I also think that Alex is a bad guy, I don't really have any proof to back that up it is just a feeling i have. And finally I definately think the whole situation will not be resolved in Half Life 2. But I do think we will understand allot more about the final plot.

Alex is someone important's daughter (guessing from the E3 movie) so I'm skeptic to think that she's bad.

Also, the combine attack aliens and vice versa just like the marines in the 1st game do.

Erm...Alyx is the daughter of the black scientist (forgot his name). I highly doubt she's evil.

Aha, a good arguement :). Yes the combine do attack the aliens, BUT! the aliens also attack gordon freeman. Like i said, they are controlled. But can be out of control, one thing i forgot to say is that i bet the combine are going to completely lose control of the aliens and that will be half life 3 ;).

i think it will start awesome and then have a badass ending!

most likely it will start in a prison or somewhere resembling one, mos tlikely off the coast where you will need to use a boat to head to land.

Well, we know that the "slaves" from HL1 will be on Gordon's side (it was in some interview long ago), whether willingly or otherwise is yet to be seen I suppose.
Here's an idea: If you listen to the gman saying "employers," he's not sure whether that's the right word ("eeeeeehmployers"), so I'm thinking he himself is some sort of menial slave worker. Perhaps there are 2 "alien" factions (humanoid possibly, or at least one humanoid as shown by the combine), and they are contantly fighting for control (maybe it's all-out warfare), and the earth is the new territory they're fighting for, and the GMan's the local commander, with Gordon being top sarge (or whatever). That's why Gordon has to fight and why he has certain aliens on his side. Perhaps the headcrabs are just too dumb to be controlled, and the slaves have control in-bred into them.

Personally, I'd like to see the GMan as the main role in HL3: Attack of the Beaurocrat, with him having weapons such as "memo," "interdepartmental request," or the ever-devastating "lawsuit." .....:D lol!

The way the VALVe guys have spoken about the Vortigaunts/Slaves makes me think that they are on your side willingly.

I'll bet you don't start with them fighting alongside you, though. I'd say it'll probably happen about half-way.

I can just imagine a Vortigaunt doing an alien version of "Don't shoot! I'm on your side!". Heh heh.:E

Yup, the slaves didn't wan't to fight you in HL1 either, they were forced to.
Remeber those collars? That's what the slave's masters used to control them (ie: killing them if they didn't obey their commands)....

rblDiver, one could use your argument about the way the gman speaks to prove that christopher walken is an alien.

which is why he'd be a great g-man....

My guess:

Aliens came through the portal and trashed Black Mesa.

The G-Man sees Gordon's potential and recruits him to fight a cause not yet known.

Earth is consequently invaded, but we learn to control the Invaders and use them for our own benefit.

We get a bit carried away and try and create human/alien hybrids.

It goes Pear Shaped in the first trials - City 1. City 1 is sealed off and hybrids are 'upgraded' to v2, and populated into City 2.

This continues at pace over the 15 years, only now, City 17 like the rest is now virtually controlled by the hybrids AKA the Combine.

Their structures eat away at the human inhabitants buildings and they begin to control everything. They take humans, imprison them and eventually turn them into Combine soldiers.

Before conversion, Lesser Combine (those who will soon become full Combine soldiers) round up citizens and label them with numbers.

There is a small resistance faction, compiled from Black Mesa survivors and descendents. The G-Man sends you in to help them out and prevent the continuing control of the Combine - no doubt wishing to learn how they've developed and use them to his advantage to conquer other Alien planets like Xen.
