I believe that the original Half-Life story was written for Valve by Marc Laidlaw, a novelist. Does anyone know if Valve have done something similar with Half-Life 2? I have had a look in the Valve Speaks area, and searched around, but I can't seem to find this information anywhere.

im pretty sure the story for Hl2 is still written by Laidlaw. correct me if im wrong, PLEASE!!!!

edit: ya, i checked, im sure it is

Yep, Mark wrote this one too. Should be a good thing for continuity.

I'm not sure, it might be someone new. But I am sure that it is a novelist. I remember some sort of interview with the story producer where the interviewer asked if he was scared of screwing up the story for HL2; who knows?

...then again...

# Barney is back, and all the voice actors from the original Half-Life are reprising their roles. Also returning is Half-Life's original writer, Marc Laidlaw.

There was a cool big interview with marc about 6 months ago, sounds like he is really loving the idea of adapting serious stories into gameplay, and will be really pushing this idea in HL2 (as with HL1) he works directly with every department with stuff as simple as enemy placement, and ambience, it all comes down to laidlaws plans with the story, thats what made hl1 so good :)

i don't think hl1 had at all a very strong story but an insanely strong presetation, now if they can only do the same with a good story....here's hopeing to hl2 story being somewhat intrigueing
