There's no other way to put this: Substance is Half-Life 2 EXTREEEEME![br]</br>Upgrading and jam-packing HL2 in the way that the Substance pack upgraded Metal Gear Solid 2 on the playstation, the mod adds too many new features to count, supercharging the single-player game with extra enemies, weapons, effects, extra game modes such as Survivor and European Extreme, halo-style recharging health, a character select system, insane 3-way battles, melee attacks, a grenade button and a load of other crazy-ass shit. [br]

This mod is craaaaaaaaazy. I'm looking forward to trying the new version- hope they've managed to rein all the crazy shiz in.
 
This mod makes me cringe.

It's like someone's made a list of anything as long as it's not related to HL2 or just wouldn't work in HL2 and put them in it regardless. Gaah

I think I took out the one (1) with copyright thingeh in it. If there are any more do tell.

The mod itself can be played as simply 'Half-Life 2 with a load more monsters, Antlions in the first few levels, lots of striders, etc.
 
It would of been nice if some of the posters had gordon's picture or alyx's picture on them instead of soild snakes or that lady with the knife.

Seems like not alot of people here have played it..

I've played previous versions and I think it's great. Lots and lots of action and enemies, it's all abit chaotic but insanely fun, really brings the campaign back to life. This version seems great, downloading.
 
Eh, I agree with Harij. I just played through the VR Training level- it's a blast. Muuuuuch better/more solid than the older versions.
 
Playing as Grey Fox owns. I'm really liking this mod and I hope some more custom maps are released for it.
 
Those posters makes absolutely no sense at all. Snake isn't in HL2:Substance, Konami is written on them, yet they are not involved, and it's not a "Tactical Espionage Action" game at all.
 
I don't know about this version but the last one just stuck in a shitload of horribly reskinned enemies at the most random locations with the most terrible enemy placement and pacing possible. As well as added some ugly and crappy guns to use. It was terrible.
 
I had one of the earlier versions, that was good.

But its getting too complicated now, from what Ive heard and seen
 
Looks good, I love the games with all of the intense action. The different modes are cool too, I like Solid Snake the best.
 
That mod has a shitload of random and useless guns, that are placed in random places around the map, horrible and unconnected reskined ennemy placement.
A shitload of useless ugly overly effects....
Ill stick with smod wich dosnet look shitty and can run on full settings with all of the cool and halpful eyecandy.
 
I had an earlier version. It crashed on certain maps and whenever the strider used their mega-cannon. :bonce:
 
i always wondered ... what has this piece of crap todo with Konamis great game Metal Gear ?

nothing at all.
and as mentioned ... the WPs arent substance wps ... this is just stupid.

shame on this mod and their creators.
 
Well, I just played for a while, and pretty much all the complaints I had before are gone. It's far more "together" than it ever was, yet still has all the extra stuff. I really like it.
 
This is a mod which contains rediculousy shiney Combine soldiers, it's like someone went and polished there heads if you have a DX8 card with full reflectiveness on. I'll show you Polished head, now thats over the top. Theres also fithty billion random NPCs everywhere plus pointless guns and thats the whole mod for ya. So whathave we learned today children; that Half-Life 2: Substance is just an uncreative mod that is obviously very system intensive with kick ass noises added to it such as Duke Nukem saying "It's time to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and I'm all out of gum."

BTW My sister managed ruin either both my headphones and internal speakers or my sound card which is top of the range. This really pisses me off. No sound, I hope it's both speakers.

Substance is pretty much an explosion of code. It's not meant to be pretty, polished, or anything. It's just a bucketload of random crap stuffed into one DLL, which harkens back to the early days of modding.

I don't agree with their IP toe-stepping, but I can't find a reason to piss on them.

I love this mod but I personally like smod's bullet time more than Substances.

I'm not jumping on bandwagons, I just don't like this game and posted why, can you accept that? If you diden't like a mod plus explained why and I did like the mod I certainly wouldn't put you down becasue of it and can you expand on "Everyone hates you"?
Putting people down because they don't like the same things as you is pretty stupid.
Just becasue I have the same opinion as most other people doesn't necesrally mean that I am just copying them to seem cool, I may just happen have the same opinion.

Anyone know how well it'd run on a crap computer (9800 Pro AMD 2500+ and 512mb RAM)? It sounds good from what people have said, but it's mostly also said that it kills most computers in the FPS department.

I've tried some older version, and thought it was just complete BS, but maybe I should check this new version out... *edges toward door reluctantly*
edit: just lookign at the guns, some of them look... fun, if anything. downloading...

I enjoyed the old Substance but this whole changing characters/MGS thing made it annoying.

I still play the old version (0.84 I think).
