Half-Life 2 Makes Arcade Debut

"Taito and Valve have at last restarted talk about the arcade adaptation of Half-Life 2 that was first announced back in November of last year. The arcade version of last year's PC hit has been given the name Half-Life 2: Survivor and is expected to appear at the upcoming JAMMA arcade show, set to kick off on Thursday in Japan.

"At last year's announcement of the game, Taito promised a version of Half-Life 2 featuring, in addition to a single player story mode, an Online mode allowing for play between players located in arcades throughout Japan"

kinda weird ...I mean how do you get through the game without saving?

That is very weird. Maybe it's a shortened version. I remember being 13 years old and stuffing quarter after quarter into a game that I played for hours on end. Maybe they give you a code to pick up where you left off...

Hulk

Sounds kinky. Going to be played with a keyboard and mouse or is it going to be a on-rails lightgun game?

It's possible that it will use a keyboard and mouse like that odd japanese counter strike incarnation, that now runs on the source engine too. Either way Hl2 isn't the type of game one would play at an arcade, nor is Hl2DM. Hopefully they are modifying it. A lot.

IIRC, the whole idea was that there'd be a centrally accessible save bank where you could save your progress in the game. Plans could have changed of course, particuarly as the "survivor" subtitle has me thinking of a light-gun game or something o_O

If they just made a Time Crisis-esque rail shooter loosely based on HL2 with the funky weapons, wrecked towns and Combine troops it would be pretty great.

Yeah, that WOULD be cool. In fact, it would be even cooler with a lightgun manipulator....

I'd play it. Or just moan for 5 years until Valve find a way to put it on steam :p

Other possible controller inputs:
Half Life 2 DDR
Half Life 2 Whack-a-mole

I vote for "Half-Life 2: Bass Fishing Edition."

It replaces the manipulator with a fishing rod and removes all other weapons.

Something tells me there's not a lot of fish in the City 17 canals.

There were no fish in the canals at home. We used to go condom fishing. I swear, this one time I caught a twelve-pound black-ribbed-nobler. Was about this big.

And i'm all for Sulkdodds' "splat a crab" if the hammer is a crowbar.

anyone knows if its a diffrent game ?
i mean an " Episode " for HL2 ?

No-one knows anything, but something may be anounced on Thursday. That's it for now.

If they ever release HL2 for PS2, do you think it will use the Eye-Toy?
Or how about the Donkey Konga bongos for the Gamecube?

If the cabinet doesn't have a joystick crudely fashioned after a crowbar, with mock headcrab-blood painted on the end, I will feel deeply let down.

Yeah dude.... We NEED the crowbar joystick...

What we NEED is an eye-toy like system that tracks the movements of your crowbar.
