HL2 had real time lighting dumba**es, it didn't have real time shadowing.

HL2 was deffinitly the best looking, playing, and sounding FPS of 04. The lighting in HL2 looked the most natural out itself, Doom 3 and far cry. It was also the funnest more immersive FPS i ever played. I remember playing thru it 3 times, i go back to SP often. The sounds in HL2 were better then Doom 3, because it also had 5.1, but the viode acting, radio chatter, and dialog was as good as a a professionally written movie.

Valve are one of the most humble developers I've seen. They've never gloat over other companies or taken cheap jabs at them, they've always respected other companies and their games and they've always played down on how good their own games really are. Most of their praise come from the community.

I find that most of the time people just try to attribute negative characteristics on their "opponents" even if it's not fair to do so. I know I always do that when watching hockey tournaments (I live in Canada)
-- (country x) only score cheap goals, (country x) always play dirty, etc... then I'll watch an interview with the players and realize they're not the heartless thugs I thought they were.

The graphics and jungle and viewdistance = Great.
Physics = Umm.....wow there crap...

That's about the best way to describe how I felt about HL2 after beating it.

It was good, but I expected it to be better. I felt that the graphics were amazing at times and sub-par at other times. The story was lame to non existant, and I would have preferred the ability to kill NPCs. And perhaps most importantly, despite Valve saying they did not want to reveal too much about the game before release, they pretty much showed us everything except for a single chapter. Thanks for the surprises, Valve. It seems as if they had to rush to get the game out and had to leave tons out. I've beaten it twice, and it is a good game. But it certainly does not have the same appeal to me as the original.

HL2 does not have better gfx and sound than doom 3 (HL2 doesn't have real time lighting). Far cry has better level design and AI than HL2. You may have a point with physics and facial animations but the rest just sounds like fanboyism.

Or perhaps it sounds like a different opinion.
