This project was founded to unite the errors of Hammer Editor v4.0 into a corner and shoot them. Shoot them full of solutions and proven methods on tackling them and removing them from your level. This project is undergoing every day of the year and if you don't see an error covered in this listing, then be sure to stop by the forums and let us know what the error is. Once we know a solution, it will be posted here for everyone to read about. As the old error listing website went down, members of the Leak-Free.org community have taken it upon themselves to reconstruct what was an indispensible resource to everyone who knew of it. Not all entries are authored by those of the Leak-Free community, and those authors have been given their credit in the 'Authors' listing just below these paragraphs. In other words, most of the Half-Life 2 errors are submitted through the Leak-Free.org Community and then put onto the listing as they arrive, most of the Half-Life 1 errors and solutions were found and authored by Tommy, Zoner and JCHQ and the Leak-Free community takes no credit for their work. Now that the legalities are out of the way, let's explain how this listing will work.

The large list you see one the website is the long list of errors found to appear in Valve Hammer Editor 2.x,3.x and 4.x (x representing a number) in alphabetical order. Some solutions may be outdated and may also no longer work, but in the event that such a failure of the solution happens, we will quickly resolve the issue and find a new solution for it. By clicking on the link, you will be taken to a position on this page where the solution (or in some cases, solutions) can be found to solve your problem. If you find any broken links or other major errors on the site itself, please contact us immediately.
As the list is still in its infancy, it is short for Half-Life 2 errors at this time. So if you have come across an error while compiling your level, drop by the VHE Error Listing Forums to post it and any solutions you may have found. I am sure that with a little bit of community support, this listing can grow to a resource all level designers will find invaluable.

I'm very interseted. There are some HL2 errors that I want to know the meaning of so I can fix them, but they aren't logged yet.

Get busy, people! Collect your errors!

Some I've seen:

1: (compile error):
Warning: node without a volume

2: (error message when the game crashes):
The instruction at "0x2406dc59" referenced memory
at "0x01b511d4". The memory could not be read.

Click Ok to terminate the program.

(I've been getting the above error on my map and I can't figure out what it means, why it happens, or what's causing it - it just crashes when I look toward the map's center)

I don't know the solution to either of these two errors yet.

3: Another compile error is a line that simply says:
3 degenerate faces

(actually the 3 could be any number)

I'm not sure how to hunt down degenerate faces. It would be helpful to see corrdinates of where those degenerate faces are.

Awesome, I haven't heard of one of those errors before and I will add them to the list.

Thanks for the links and we've spoken! We'll be collaberating the lists so that everyone has errors listed for the mappers convience.

I'm not sure if this counts as an error, but I think it's too short for a tutorial:

Error: I can't create a Shield Scanner like the ones you see in the later parts of HL2!
Solution: You have to use the npc_cscanner entity and then add "d3_c17" to the beginning of your map name. This will make the Scanners use the Shield Scanner model.

Dozens of new errors, list will be updated tonight and a notice will be sent out to websites in the event they wish to report it.

EDIT: 62 HL2 Errors now listed
