Im sure you've heard of Vampire Masquerade....

Uses the source engine also....

I think this game looks sweet as hell. Maybe better than HL2 imo. What do you all think?

ps--THe vampire schoolgirls are hot as hell....

does look good but i doubt it will get as much attention as HL2 will even though the first one was very good
oh and i saw the same telephone wires in one of the city photos that are used in city 17

well, I haven't seen much of VM, except for some concept art, but I don't think one can compare VM and HL2, because it's all about gameplay! even if you have a fully photo realistic game, no one would play it if it was boring as hell. Graphics are nothing without the game itself. If VM is a good game, perhaps I'll play it sometime. But I will most definitely not play it just because it happens to use the same engine as HL2.

I'm gonna go check some pictures of it (those schoolgirls looked fine in the PCGamer article :D)

Thought it looked crap.

Self indulgant goth wannabes wet dream come true.

I was a huge huge huge fan of the first game, so I've been anxiously awaiting a sequel for years.

Still don't think it'll be as good as HL2 though. :p

"Hey wannabe! Wanna play?"

I don't like this sort of crap you know... I have several goth friends who wouldn't play this game for the world, and several others that probably would. what you said is grade-school talk, mature people don't judge. keep this in mind, thank you.

There's a trailer here: http://www.gametrailers.com/vault-v.html

I think the engine looks capable but the design looks uninspired. I'm sure this is a very early build though, so I'm not completely writing this one off.

thanks! I'll check it out.

I said wannabe goths, like 12 year old kids, not real established gothic individuals.

I myself am an industrialist which is often msitaken for goth culture.

hmm... I watched the trailer, and I really don't agree with you, DeXtRoMeThOrFaN. It's not even close to as detailed as HL2 and the animations seemed rather quirky. The settings looked pretty cool though, and I bet the feel of the game is nice and scary.

Yeah I watched the trailer too. The trailer doesnt do the game justice. Go to gamespot, they have some high res pics over there.

and magnetichead---Why dont you just go ahead and shoot yourself. Nobody will miss you.

That is a lame ass comment. Your probably just pissed cuz you coulnt handle the goth lifestyle, or was made fun of.

Just like movies, in games there are Good games, and B rated games. Half-Life 2 will be a good game, and Vampire Masquerade looks to be a B rated game that a few people will try, but wont cause any hype.

You probably must not know much about Vampire Masquerade... It has or had a giant fan base--- It was some kinda card game or somethin....

ANd um, its COVER story this month for PCgamer. Yeah im sure just a few people will try it

Hmm, well I had never heard of the first one. If I did I probibly didnt pay any attention to it.

You guys have to learn your gaming roots for you are vastly misinformed.

VtM is from the World of Darkness setting. It started off and still is a popular pen, paper and dice RPG. I've played it a few times, was fun but not my thing.

The games were based off of this, while it maintains a huge fan base, it was not a card game at any point in time.

As for goths they blow  I jest, i don't hate them , i find them amusing more than anything else.

I especially like those black goth t shirts that say "You laugh at me because i'm different, I laugh at you because you're all the same" Mainly because of the irony factor. You know, how all goths seem to dress in a similar if not identical manner, make poetry in a similar if not identical manner, etc etc.

But who am i to judge so in conclusion

I doesn't utilize the Source engine nearly as well as HL2 does, so there is no way it can be better then HL2. It does have potential to be a good game though.

:haha:

Sorry that my opinions didnt match yours oh master!

If you had read what I posted you would know that im an industrialist.

Once again, a reply that is senseless.

Im not really trying to defend this game, cuz I know that HL2 will be better.

But how do you know the source engine isnt utilized as well as HL2's?
And plus, even if it wasnt applied as well, that doesnt mean the game can't be better than HL2. That's just stupidity man.

No it cannot be as good as half life because its centered around poncey ann riceesqye frilly lace wearing vampires.

Yeah that automatically makes it a shitty game.

And wtf does this game have to do with GOTH KIDS??? Quit bringing it up, cuz goth people in real life, have nothing to do with this game....

In no way are you defending your hate for this game... Just your prejiduce against goths...

Vamp goths who live out their lifes like this RPG do.

Just look at the screenshots/trailer. I don't see any use of bump mapping/specular mapping, even on brick textures.

And YOU are the one who started this topic. Of course we don't know which game is better story/plot wise, so we can only compare the graphics.

Why is it that every week we have a troll/semi troll that comes along and says "Will [insert game name here] be better then HL2?" just to start a flame war. And Vampire is even based on the same engine and were comparing it to HL2 - WTF??? :flame:

Well this turned into a giant war against which game is better, and also had some goth vs. industrialist inbetween, WHAT DRAMA

*barfs*

just one question though... How can someone be a wannabe goth. Technically goths are mainly wannabe dead people.

So a wannabe goth only kinda sorta wants to be dead?

Sorry if i sound rude, but i have little respect for people who spend their time enjoying the fact that they are acting depressed. If you dress goth and listen to goth music then you are ok in my book (like that would mean anything) but if you just ask depressed for the sake of looking cool then i hate you. Simple as that (once again nobody will give a shit) ,but thats just my opinion

flames away!

As for the game, i don't know, VtM Bloodlines looks interesting, their use of lighting adds a certain element to the game. I'm pretty sure it will be a good game in and of itself. Also since it uses Source it too can be easily modded. So if someone wanted to make a game all about talking to npcs and walking around town, instead of modding the hell out of half life 2 they could slightly modify bloodlines and save themselves a lot of trouble

I think that trying to compare these games to each other is the biggest problem. HL2 is a FPS and VM:B is a FPS trying to be a RPG, they are trying to make BLoodlines into a game like Dues Ex, not a game like HL2. So your compairing two diffrent games with completly diffrent playstyles (for the most part). I hope to play both games, I don't wonder about which game is better. Do you always going to the movies and compare each one to each other? I just go there to enjoy a good movie.

Lay off from Bloodlines, Troika makes it. You will ask what's Troika? Well, company made Arcanum and many of Troika developers made Fallout (one of the best RPG to date). Right now they are making hardcore DnD turn-based RPG, nothing like dumped down Neverwinter Nights. So there… I believe they will make GREAT RPG game, because they CAN.

And when originality became “gothic fest for 12 years old horny boys”? At least it is not another Elf vs Hobbit game.

I just want to ask, why do you give a **** what people do? Aren’t we living in free world now? Let’s make bunch of topics about Christians, Catholics, Muslims, and tell everybody how we hate them too. I mean **** it, we hate everyone who is different. Let’s get back to slavery too, put all Jews in camps and live in Utopia where white Christians rule supreme. Smells like Master Plan… back to the roots I guess.

Yeah but none of those groups are as depressing as goths, sooo the goths gotta go

to the sun... preferably:cheers:

goths?.....whatever floats your boat...........

i think most of them need to seek help though

id start saying stupid things about them...but its mostly been said....

Yeah, Goths need to get on with there lifes. VTM looks alright. But, it looks like H2 has better graphics.

the only trailer I can find for VtM-B is kinda bad quality so I can't speak to the bump-mapping and such. That being said I would be very surprised if they had bothered to license the Source engine and didn't do that sort of stuff...I mean it's been around for some time now.

In fairness none of us know that much about the game...I read the PCGamer article and must say I thought it looked really cool. It IS an RPG, so we can probably expect a much different sort of game, probably focusing more on characters and stuff. That's where the Source's lip-synching tech will really shine. Hopefully Troika (they're developing the game) will take a cue from Valve about making good looking characters (I'm sure they're probably working pretty closely with valve, actually, considering it's valves engine).

I DO know the they tweaked the engine pretty heavily in some areas, especially clothing physics and such. So shirts will ripple and dresses sway and boobs bounce.

Finally, as to what kind of people will want to play this game or goth wannabe's or whatever...people....we're gamers. Our hobby is immersing ourselves into alternate worlds...don't judge.

Can the mods just close "vs." topics whenever they show up? 100% of them turn into a flame war. Except this time people decided to take their anger out on goths. Wonderful. Whats next? Black people? Furries?

You guys need to be a bit more mature.

*Appluads Typhon*

I think Bloodlines should be given a fair chance, as it will have a completely different focus than Half-Life 2.
As has been said, it'll be much more similar to a Deus Ex game, with the focus I gather being more on politics and intrigue than pure action (though apparently vampire on vampire battles will be a sight to behold).

Finally, what does specular/bump/normal mapping have to do with the quality of the game? Troika, making an RPG, will be much more focused on the facial animation and emotive technologies rather than how many effects layers the engine can put on wall textures. I'm not arguing against these things, as I like prettiness too, but I still play through System Shock 2 every once in a while, and am blown away by how much better that game is than half the drek that gets shoveled out the door. Deus Ex was among the worse-looking Unreal engine games, and I'd wager it was the best. I'm all for advancing graphics technology, but we need to stop judging a game on its lighting technology and shader progamming and examine how the graphical advances will enhance the experience as a whole. It's nice to see a sheen reflect off tile, but it's nicer to see the fear in Alyx's eyes as a friggin Hydra tentacle stabs a Combine soldier and tosses him around. Sorry for ranting and sounding combative, I just think people are focusing on the wrong things. Thanks.

Edit: Made it more readable.

Good points. I was especially supprised when I bought HL PS2 to see they added facial animations. Really added a lot to the game.
