HL2 won't launch

Hi,

I preloaded HL2 and it activated last night. However, the game will not launch. I get the "Preparing to " screen for a few seconds and that's it. The same thing happens with HLS and CSS but not with OppForce and HL. All are at 100%.

I have:

A64 3200
GeForce 6800 GT, latest official drivers
Onboard sound
WinXP SP2

Any help appreciated. I posted this to Valve this morning, but no response so far.
