gabe said that at the release of half life 2, CS:S will be the only multiplayer. they never said there will never be a hl2dm.

there is a thread, pretty recent, you guys can look for it, i just want to bring this to your attention, that has the details.

but someone or a couple people already e-mailed gabe, (and you can get e-mail headers, it's in recent thread), and gabe said that they didn't say there won't be a hl2dm, it's just not going to be there for initial release.


and before you flame, realize i'm not presenting an arguement, but ideas.

so do your double checking and don't assume. i just thought i'd bring this up since people are still putting things in threads like "omg no hldm" and "yeah someone will mod it."

I think it is a wise decision.

Why hold HL2 even longer to finsih DM, when all we need for the first month or so is the singleplayer?

Good decision by Valve, if they uphold this hinting.

Well, considering Valve has a whole 2 months from RC1 to release date (almost) I wouldn't be suprised to see it available as an expansion / patch over steam.

I hope it comes out later as a free add-on, but won't get my hopes up. If anyone still thinks it's a special surprise that will still come with HL2, it's time to take a deep breath and let go....

I really think they were willing to release hl2 without MP even though it could suffer in the reviews, just so they can surprise us. I remember reading something way back where gabe said he would play it everyday, and that it was different and fun. Maybe they didn’t want the reviews to spoil it for us.

I don't think they worry too much about reviews, and head to head competition from halo2, Grand Theft Auto:SA and Nintendo DS. They know that if what they have is good, the fan base will grow slowly and if not this winter, next year the sales will keep growing like it did with hl.

Or it could just not exist. I still have faith that there’s an hl2dm in the works.

Gabe did not say CS:Source would be the only MP.
what he did say was CS:Source would be available with HL2.

and while im at it...im gonna defend the rest of us who are disappointed about this situation.

first of all, none of us who were dying for a HL2 themed MP said the MP had to be DM/TDM/CTF...it was simply the simplest and last choice most of us HL2 themed MP fans thought would be.

most infact were expecting something new and unique...perhaps team based RTS or whatever fun and crazy idea Valve could have come up with.
