HL2DM on a lan without internet ?

I'm afraid that answer will be a no, but is it possible to play HL2DM on a lan where there is no internet connection ? Due to steam i'm guessing a big, fat no

or is there a way to run a "steam server" for a lan without internet access ? i'm guessing that's a no too

Me and buddies wanna play HL2DM next week on a lan where there is no internet, and probably some players who have HalfLife 2 but haven't preloaded HL2DM yet...

As far as I know there isint I may be remembering wrong but I thought I heard from someone official that HL2 would only need the internet for only a few weeks or soemthing after release?

That sucks. I'd really like to play HL2dm over our LAN with my flatmates. I don't get the reason for it not to be possible.

You can start steam in offline mode, then start a lan server. Use the search button for info...

Well, when I run it there's the option to search for LAN servers on your local network as a tab in the join game thingy... so I'd personally have assumed you can make them from that.

Not sure why you have to run it in offline mode, though...

I'll be playing it at the Valhalla lan party in two days. They'll be running a Content/Administration server for those with slow net connections aka me so that should mean we don't need to be running in offline mode.
