from vivendi. what i think is going on here is vivendi doesn't care about fans, so they are quick to tell the painful truth. valve doens't want to upset the fans, so they say nothing which is actually worse than confirming it. this is my theory and why i think april is the release date

WAIT A SECOND....

There is no official Valve confirmation on that link. Reuters is simply stating the obvious - that Valve refuses to comment on a release date!

The Valve Employee said "Nothing Yet." How the hell does the mean anything more then we already know? They didn't even ask the Valve guy about the release date - they asked him about a comment on the situation surrounding the whole fiasco.

One single report from a French newspaper quoted that Vivendi said that it'd be an Easter 2004 release. IMO opinion, not the most reliable source, but once again all the shops and websites are putting the release date back. September 30th the 2nd?
