maybe Half Life 2 will also come with the option to play the game in "widescreen" format, like the E3 direct feed videos...i think it would be pretty cool to play it like that

I believe valve said there would be a widescreen mode. I think its in the valve info thread

thanks...could you post the link? I'm to lazy to go and find it

I don't think so .. the more screen real estate, the better. I hate games where the HUD or something else takes up excessive amounts of space and you're left with 4 inches of actual "game".

im sure they can minimize the fonts for the hud if your playing it in widescreen "mode." I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be that much of a hassle to do that

They could change the size of the hud, crosshair, etc...im pretty sure

yeah, im with you lone. i remember this one game that had a rocket launcher that took up half the screen, gawd that was annoying. if there is an option to make it widescreen, then whoop-de-doo. let whoever wants it use it, but it shouldnt be mandatory (not that anyone mentioned that)

You can play in widescreen if that's your thing .. I'm just saying it will be much more immersive and useful to have as big a window as possible.

there will be a widescreen mode. hopefully it will be like the bink files, instead of like in counter strike where it just stretches the screen vertically. i don't recall seeing a game with a widescreen option actually being letterboxed, just stretched.

Widescreen modes are really only for people with widescreen monitors. If you use it on a conventional 4:3 monitor then you are losing detail.

Wouldn't a non-sqished/stretched widescreen mode alter the frame of view for a player? It would have to to preserve aspect ratio, and therefore would offer a differently sized view of the world. This would be a big issue in multiplayer - Imagine if a setting gave you an extra 5 degrees of view to either side - that's a big awareness advantage.

Yeah, but you sacrifice some view from the top and the bottom so you might not notice that crouching CT. :)

i would rather use my whole monitor tbh. However, if i had a plasma screen it would be a different story.

by the way... you can play in widescreen mode in C-S 1.6 if you have a widescreen monitor... someone tested it?

I've played CS 1.6 in widescreen, and I think it's cool. Gives it a movie feel...especially when you are specating.

The only thing is, I have a normal 4:3 CRT monitor, so it didn't make much sense after a while.

I'd like to have a widescreen monitor, though...just cause.

Id love to see a wide screen mode, its not difficult either, jsut change the pov of the camera and add the black bars.
