Holy shit turn on your TV and check out the news

Just saw it myself on local news. It could rise up to ten thousand feet.
Wtf were the parents thinking building that thing around a 6 year old?
****ing irresponsible parents these days.
 
This kid is ****ing awesome. I was watching a Channel 9 news feed, and it looked like it was just floating there, and then the camera zooms out and you see the balloon careening through the clouds at like 80mph. I lolled.
 
Wow, thats crazy. Stupid parents.

EDIT: Although they did say it wasnt their intention, they left him alone with the baloon.

Also: In the live stream, is he actually traveling that fast, or are they flying around the balloon?
 
Can he come down? Or is he flying around clueless just waiting to crash?
 
So according to the news, two small boys were playing out side near the craft while the parents were in the house. the younger boy climbed into the little compartment. But how could he un-tether the cables from inside the craft? (unless there was a release mechanism from inside)... i think the kid climbed in and his bastard of a brother set it free

no, its just a big helium balloon. The kid has no control.

It looks like one side has deflated somewhat, which means it's travelling more horizontally than vertically.

also they just said that the speed is a trick of the eye due to the zoom and the heli moving too....they estimate he's travelling around 15mph.
 
I have a pretty big delay I guess. He just now mentiond that for me.

My guess is the kid is playing a joke, he probably let the balloon go and then went and hid somewhere.
 
Kinda dissapointing, was hoping for something in that balloon. Kids probably fine, sitting in his house somewhere where his parents couldn't find him.
 
I have a feeling this is a hoax the boys played...one hides and the other lets the balloon off the ground saying the other one was inside...his parents aren't gonna be happy when they get the bill for the rescue operation.
 
They are saying that the hatch was unlocked from the inside. The kid could have likely fallen out long before the news started covering it. Let's hope it's a hoax.
 
Apparently the family was on Wifeswap a while ago. Not sure if that has any relevance or...
