Home Theater vs Media PCs

If I had money to spend... should I get hi-fi home theater or a put a lot of cash into a media pc? I would love the flexibility of having a computer on my tv, but are there PC components available that can match the quality of a component home theater system? Granted I'll still have to get a component surround amplifier and actual surround speakers, but are the DVD-ROMs and sound cards (are there better surround cards than SB audigy 4?) up to snuff with the component dvd players and surround receivers available to home theater? Anyone know of any articles comparing the two? I suppose another option would be to just get BOTH, but that kind of defeats half the purpose of having a media PC.
