Prepare to be amazed. This is Will Wright at the GDC, showing off Spore through a number of the key evolutionary stages that you'll encounter in the game. The amount of times I had to pick my jaw off the ground, only do to it again a minute later when something even more incredible happened... wow.

You can either register or get a login off of bugmenot. Either way, make sure you watch it.

Everytime someone writes "Will Wright" I think of Will Self. I don't know why.

EDIT: what a stupidly off-topic post. I'm watching the video now though.

Old news. This video was already mentioned in this Spore thread.
I don't care if it was mentioned there, it needs a new thread - that one got about 4 replies after the video was posted. This is incredible stuff, and shouldn't be restricted to the end of another thread.

ok i used bugmenot but when i choose my connection speed nothing happens?

edit: game looks awesome, animation is beautiful, i just hope its fun and not chore-like like other ''life sims''.

thanx for the link, very interesting stuff...
perfect animation :O

The only game I am looking forward as much as this is NWN2 and thats only becouse I am a huge D&D/Forgotten Realms fan.

Edit: I was half expecting him to move to another galaxy towards the end of the video.

I want to watch it, but I don't feel like registering.

Then use bugmenot, its a sin to miss this if you had the opportunty to watch!

It looks fantastic. Just the scope of the content is amazing, but that much content compressed into the minimum of space? Amazing.

I have a feeling this'll be sorta like the original Pirates was, i.e. a group of "mini-games" connected with open-ended gameplay, which makes for a very addictive experience, hopefully it won't be like many other Will Wright games which have always been better in their "2nd" incarnation(Imo atleast).

I like how the gameply within the game evolves along the line that games themselves have evolved in real life.

For example you start out playing a pac man like game. It eventually evolves into an Age of Empires type game, then a Civilization type game, etc.

But the most impressive feature is the procedural programming used in this one. Very exciting stuff.

Civ came before AoE as far as I know tho :p

Wow!

I'd buy a UFO - steal many different species from across the galaxy - and use my varied, adaptive army to invade one planet at a time...

COMBINE! :D

Holy crap! This was already something to keep in mind, but this made it my #1 most wanted game! Simply amazing. This guy's a genius. I watched the whole thing in one run without pausing. While being amazing in gameplay, and amazing in innovation (did I mention it was amazing?) it's also very pretty to watch, smooth curves, nice style.

I thought it was fantastic when the race from a different system attacked him, so he just nuked them plain and simple. I can see that being very satisfying, and a lot of fun.

meh we're all so hyped about this. the green bunny and I are absolutely rabid about it.

And the planet became just another ring around the sun :D

Holy crap. If that demo is what Spore looks like when "it's held together with duct tape" (or whatever he said), then what the hell will it look like after another year/ 18 months of development?

It's going to be immense!

Yeah, and luckily there's a XB360 version coming out, if my PC won't handle it :)

/me goes into a small wormhole that has randomly appeared in the place of a lamp next to his computer screen

ZOMG TIEM WARP! Is it Fall 2006 yet?

that game looks brilliant. Imagine how long you could spend playing it without getting bored

I'm starting to get pretty hyped about this game. Watching the video, it really does look like they've pulled off something new, original and best of all, it looks fun.

I can't wait for some sort of demo to come out.

Sadly the video copped out before it reached the end. Oh well, at least I saw the technology editor

Right, thats it.

I'm making a highly religious group of aliens that use lots of technology.

Because it sounds cool.

I OWN THE WORLD!!

I AM GOD!

Create whole worlds, entire ecosystems - or even better, destroy them in a single click! Boom!
Playing this game is going to be a power trip. :naughty:

Not while you're a lungfish, though. Obviously.

So does the game essentially go on forever since you can just keep moving around to all the different planets?

Currently watching it... Looking forward to spore.

Looks like it.

And with the Sims tradition of expansion packs, I can see new things being added every few months after release.
