At the time of the release of Half Lfe 2 I did not have broadband, therfore I purchased HL2 over the counter. I really wanted the colectors edition but Game UK did not have a release date so I decided to buy the Standard edition.

I have found out recently that the colectors edition will be released in the UK on 10th December for £44.99. My main reason for wanting the colectors edition is to get Half Life Source. Having already speant £34.99 on HL2 I dont want to buy the Colectors edition aswell.

I cant return the game to the shop as it has already been registerd on steam.

Does any one know of a way I can get Half Life Source legaly. I would pay the diference between the two editions £10 for it. I'm not to bothered about the rest of the stuff in the colectors edition (especially the Prima Guide).

Any suggetsions appreciated.

Valve said they are working on an upgrade option for Steam, so eventually you will be able to pay around £7-8 for HL Source, DOD:S and the back cataglogue

I look forward to that day, thanks for the info.

Same situation here. I hope they decide to go ahead with this option.

I bought the Silver Edition back in October, lol

Don't bother if you've already got HL1, the game looks EXACTLY the same from what I've seen, apart from some nice water and ragdolls. They didn't change the archetecture, textures, not even the models!

No it doesn't. There are other differences.

1) Dynamic soft, fuzzy render-to-texture shadows for world objects and character models.

2) More realistic dynamic lighting / shadowmaps.

3) All the crappy old stretched over 16-bit 2D bitmaps as backgrounds have been replaced by real 3D skyboxes.

4) Some of the sounds sound crisper, higher fidelity now.

5) Some minor A.I bugs have been cleaned up.

6) A lot of other bugs have been sorted out.

7) May be some other things, but they aren't likely noticeable.

But yeah, other than that, it's the same. Really though, what do you expect? It's a direct Source Engine port, VALVe said it themselves. Leave a full Source Engine overhaul makeover to the modders. :)

And that I am sure of. I haven't personally played it myself but I have enough proof to proove it.

Same Here, but at least it'll be nice to relive the experience one more time, no matter what the improovements/lack thereof maybe :)

Yeah, I'd buy it.

I have teh reatil!!!! suckers with steam! pffffff...i actually OWN the CDs!!!!!
