How can they delay it again?

I am curious as to how Valve could delay HL2 again due to this source code debacle. Consider that they have entered into a multi-million dollar contract with ATI to bundle Half life 2 with the new 9800XT Cards (which are out now). The 2 month (or whatever) delay probably raised ATI's hackles, considering people like to get free things NOW, not 2 months from now.

To delay again, significantly, would, I imagine, break their deal with ATI. It's ridiculous to think that people will buy the 9800XT bundle for more $$, to be able to get a free game a year from now. I would think that delaying further would make Valve liable for some hardcore suing via ATI.

Just a thought,

if they did that id boycott ati

..like breach of contract? I dunno.. ya never know.

Well, ATI are stuck with the deal now, so if it's delayed further and nobody buys the bundle, it's 8 mil down the drain for ATI. I wouldnt be happy =P

It all depends on what the valve ATi contract actually states.

The whole reason for the initial delay is probably from this source leak anyway. It sure does make alot of sense.

Of course. But I would think that ATI would want to cover their asses in such a pricey agreement.

If the source leaked before the delay, then why did we only start seeing it today? Information like that is not withheld, I understand the mentalities of these groups. They are just like the 0-day Warez groups that try to release as fast as possible just to get recognition for it.

If it was stolen that long ago, we would have seen it that long ago.

lol ATI must not be happy, They are not nearly as ritch as Nvidia, since ATI only controls 20% of the market, so this is a lot of money for them, Nvidia should have done this deal lol

Talk about a bad week

As Gab stated himself, this is a bad week. The implications of this leak are numerous and could put the development of this game in jeopardy. The Steam delivery and security issues, the bundle with ATi, the sales they will miss if they can't release it before the holidays.

Once again, I think they should have waited until October to announce the game. This shows that some people are way too eager to play video games.

I wasn't only referring to the source, either. People have speculated 2004 releases, but I say that with this ATI deal set in stone, that it simply does not make sense, business-wise.

We'll see it by the end of this year, or we'll see some shit hit the fan ;P

yep, valve has another problem, ut 2k4 is slated for release in NOV, if they want ut 2k4 to take their sales, they should release it at the same time to compete with it, or else they are gonna compete with doom 3

Finally. An intelligent post on this. Even if we "haxors" did get some leakable info and Valve had to postpone the release further, who are we to comment on what the legal ramifications are between the dev and the secondary investor?

Im speaking from a common sense point of view, the rest is speculatory. Think about the marketing logic of what a delay would do to ATI's 9800XT Bundle.
