How could the RC be rejected?

Wouldn't be suprised if Vivendi doesn't bother testing it and just releases it for the sake of cash :D

this was a pleasant suprise on the forums, I wasn't really expecting them to get the RC out by today. awesome work

Well you should be suprised again to understand that the RC actually went out yesterday (wednesday) not today, so EVEN BETTER NEWS!!!

as will HL2 also
If that were the case, I would expect a gold press release tomorrow.

But CS:S and HL:S could throw a wrench in that.

even if they do find bugs, if its at the RC stage, it usually means it REALLY REALLY close

Yeah i picked that up reading it the first time :farmer:
heh, this icon is "farmer," and I live in iowa.
harharhar

Yeah it must release soon :D!!!! I AM SO HAPPY!!!!!! THIS IS GOOD!

How would CS:S and HL:S throw a wrench in that? Valve submitted a final version, so any software to be included with HL2 is in the RC I would presume? Or am I mistaken or misunderstanding you? (oops, shoulda used the quote feature)

Vivendi could send the game back for any number of reasons, not just bugs. However it's highly probable that Vivendi have had access to the game before now, so if there are any issues that need to be ironed out they are probably cosmetic aspects like load up screen contents etc.
Yeah. Things like the content of the game are proably already "approved" by Vivendi, just minor things to get to playing the game.

With the amount of money this game is expected to generate, I think Vivendi will be willing to let a few things slip.

Any bugs can get fixed through steam right?

:D

vivendi would greenlight the game if it came of floppy disks and would only run on a korean copy of windows. Were gunna buy it anyway.

I would be surprised if it wasn't rejected. Most games go through a few RCs.

HL was an exception to the rule.

even if the RC is rejected.. i don't expect VU to find any major bugs.. maybe a few minor ones but even then.. with a few minor bugs, HL2's release isn't far off now. :)

I'm a little late to the thread, but I think it's worth mentioning that Vivendi is probably only looking for major showstopping bugs at this point. Minor gameplay glitches probably won't be enough for them to reject this as a releasable product.

I'm thinking that nothing major will be found in this RC. I'm thinking that with all the effort Valve put into squishing bugs that not many could be found at this stage. As for the gold-shelves time frame, I don't think anyone could accurately guess it. I'm hoping for early October, but it could be earlier/later.

Who cares though. We've waited this long, I'm pretty sure we can hold on for a few weeks more.

Well, for one, the CS:S beta is still ongoing.

One would think, if they fixed all of the bugs, that they would end the beta.

Big Boss at Vivendi: Hey tester, we got a new project for you to start. We just got the RC for this little game called Half Life 2 and we need you to test it out this weekend.

Tester: But boss, I still have to finish the tests on the new version of JumpStart Advanced.

Big Boss at Vivendi: That's right. We need that innovative educational software flawless for the massive army of kindergarteners pounding on our doorstep. That's still your number one priority. We'll put this Quarter Life game on the back burner until next May.

Cool. This means the game could be out as early as the 1st of October, thats if it gets approved immediately

good thing for us that VU is strapped for $$$ (as "strapped" as multi-million dollar companies get (not REALLY)) so they might want to rel. this asap... although i'm sure there is a certain protocol to follow that will take at least a bit of time.

I hope to god Gabe(father of all being) taped some change or a dollar to the RC to pass it faster...

Not bad. Here's my take:

Big Boss at Vivendi: Hey tester, we got a new project for you to start. We just got the RC for this little game called Half-Life 2 and we need you to test it out this weekend.

Two weeks later...

Big Boss at Vivendi: How's it going?

Tester: I've been having so much fun playing with these awesome physics that I haven't even finished the first level yet! I should be done with QA in about, oh, two months.

I'm guessing it will take a couple weeks to test, I mean, HL2 = 40+ Hours.
HL1 source = 25+ hours, CS: Source = alot to test....

Usually people do find bugs when testing someone else's code. When you are testing your own product, it is easy to miss things that an external guy would catch.

It also depends on how aggressively VU will test it.

The game has not been bug free for months.

its not even bug free now, no game ever released on the PC has ever been bug free, nor will there ever be one that is.

I beg to differ, one word: Minesweeper.

lol that really shows the commitment of the jolly ol' chaps at VU, well hurry up!

 Going to be released in England before any other place.

What makes you say that? I was under the impression it was going to be released simultaneously worldwide and on steam.

I see it two ways:
1. As was stated before, Vivendi is strapped for money now (there have been two or three near bankrupcy claims) and is therefore riding hard on the sales of Half Life 2, which is bound to sell in the tens of millions world wide. For this reason they might consider sending the product back to Valve so as to make it as perfect as possible, not to mention destroy the competition.
2. The same money motive might drive them to release HL2 as fast a possible no matter what shape it is in because they know that fans will buy it anyway.
