Why did this site in particular become the gathering place for Half-Life fans everywhere? This is something I've been wondering about since I joined.

Because halflife.net is an official link, and some think this is the official site lol.

Also at the beggining it was the only place to congregate all infomation and news, and it just grew from there, and the Valve info thread became quite famous dureing the various scandals and rumors.

And along with the fact that Gabe Newell has posted here a couple of times. Wrong forum by the way. :)

Why? WHY?! BECAUSE IT'S THE PLACE TO BEEEE AND NOT TO BE AT THE SAMEEE TIME. G H E T T O M U S I C K get down!

when gabe posted.. can anyone remember his nick name? and did he have an Avatar :p?

The forums are fast, and the "Valve answers"/"letters from Valve" are great ways to get info while we wait.

Somthing I find dodgy, Half-Life source and Half-Life radio, listed 16'000 members last week, now it lists 32'000. and they have about 1 active topic per day which gets about 10 replies max, now this site has around 13'000 users and you get new replies every few seconds lol, it doesnt make much sense to me.

type half life 2 in google, and this is the 4th or 5th site you get.

4th after 2 PHL matches and the Sierra product page.

What brought me here at first was IGN's link the Valve information thread.

Yeah, I guess the Valve info thread was a big draw. Well, I guess the lesson is if you want to have the biggest, baddest fansite on the internet for an upcoming game, just start emailing the developers like crazy.

And you need to have that unique British wit/humor. By unique I of course mean sadly unfunny. I'm joking... or am I?

the community, accessibility, news availability, scalability, and malleability.

errr....
it was one of the first real Hl2 sites up, and cmon feel the atmosphere, this forum has so much love, I have had this site as my homepage forever, its the first thing I check in the morning before gym, and the last thing I visit before Im off to bed.

[SARCASM]Dependant on who you share the love with, of course. Not everyone has the love. They do need to get some love.[/SARCASM]

Your helicopters fall from the sky like broken birds. You're government will leave you here to die G.I. They cannot see you from their planes.

I hope HL2 will have some music that you can play from your vehicles so everyone can hear.

meh; Half-Life Radio, they disgust me. HL2.net is the best community and information webpage for HL2. Valve knows it, and any other webpage that denies it is just jealous.

hehe I was thinking more Jim Carrey in The Cable guy, not Battlefield Vietnam :p
chicka kay chicka kay chicka kay kay kay

A nice program of exercises and the right diet really operate miracles.

i typed Half Life in google and i saw halflife2.net. i was like WOW Half Life 2. So i checked it out and registered. Man i have been registered here for a year now!

Let's see:

-best forums out there (PHL may be a bigger and broader site with corporate backing, but it's forum program is a real clunker and gamespy accounts are a pain)
-24/7 coverage (both U.K. and U.S. people on the job and discussing things at all hours of the night and day)
-the info thread has more of the straight dope on HL2 and in-depth information on Source/HL2 than you can find anywhere else
-Valve/Limelight association
-generally more pro-Valve than most sites
-sheer momentum

However, this site does not beat out PHL, the largest Half-Life site currently.

Maybe not in traffic, but then PHL is a general Half-Life site. People don't come here for their news on things like Counter-Strike (the biggest online FPS in history) and other HL1 mods, which of course a broader and longer established site like PHL does. But if they want news on HL2 specifically, or if they want to have people to discuss HL2 with, they come here.

For HL2 reasons
-updates come on time, not week after news gets out
-Info from Valve Thread is huge reason I think
-www.halflife2.net is a very simple and easy address to remember, or tap in if you want to find a hl2 site.
- Flaming is relatively low.
-started up within a month of the first leaked scans popping up didn't it? old site for HL2 based sites.

I came here and all my fans followed me.

well actualy i followed crabcakes. :hmph:

Simple answer. Munro sold his soul to the Devil

and i DON'T mean Lucifer Crass.

I think Apos nailed it here.

The most funny thing is, we've got more threads than they have posts

But yeah, halflife2.net rocks. One thing I've always found curious about it that a lot of people refer to it as hl2.net, but that doesn't direct you here.
The people here aren't bittered Valve haters, the amount of spoilers being posted is minimal and the mods are cool.

Another reason is the best thread ever: the Valve info thread :)

Valve info thread sheer facts:
Replies from VALVe: approx. 562 (not all are replies)

Some kind of record, maybe? Has any other thread on Earth so many views?

Is it just me, or has HL2.net been seeing more users since the site came back up. It used to be that there was about 100~120 people browsing the site. Now there are usually about 200~240 members browsing.... HL2.net has certainly grown and it looks like it will only get bigger!

Spoiled as in beta spoilers? Well, all I have to say to that lately is "Pah!".

Apart from that though, this is one hell of a set of forums. I've made friends here, learnt stuff, and I have fun here every night.

Speculation and General Discussion forums are definately my faves at the mo'.

cuz they didn`t open an orginal gamesite so fan site became more popular :|.
