just a quick question. at the begining of half life 2. How did alex, barney and the rest know that freeman was coming? who told them?

Also where did they get his HEV suit from? the G-man had it by default since he had freeman?

So did the G-man tell them freeman was coming and post the HEV suit to them?

They hired his services from the Gman.

well maybe. but they had obvioulsy been expecting him for a long time.

Well, yes, since they hired his services from the Gman.

Yeah in EP2 Eli declares that he knows all about the G-Man which holds to the fact they must have known he had Gordon under his grasp. So they obviously hired him for his services for the resistance, but the G-Man obviously didn't say when he would be deployed, thats why they are shocked to see him, just not overly shocked.

Well, I don't know what a resistance that cannot defeat the UU has that the g-man could want. They seemed surprised enough that I assumed they didn't know I was headed their way.

The Downfall of the Combine? Borealis? Nude pictures of Alyx, I can think of several things they could provide to the G-man.

The Borealis has something to do with Aperture...?
And Gman could want ANYTHING.

1. G-Man placed Gordon in the train all well knowing that Barney was working undercover there and would help Gordon get directed towards Kleiner.
2. Knowing the area quite well, perhaps Alyx just knew where the guards were converging to apprehend Gordon so she knew where to save him from the Civil Protection beat down.
3. The HEV suit in HL2 is the Mark V. NOT the Mark IV which Gordon used in the original Half Life.
4. I doubt G-Man told anyone (perhaps many Eli), about Gordon returning if you actually listen to the astonishment of Dr. Kleiner when Gordon arrived.

The Borealis was designed by GLaDOS (their artificial inteligence Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System) and is also manned by a version of the GLaDOS system. All of this, Borealis/GLaDOS were major projects by Aperture science. I have a big feeling that the "disappearance" of the Borealis and part of the Dry Dock had something to do with the GLaDOS artificial intelligence becoming self aware as well.

Also, Gabe Newell has stated that the girl from Portal, Chell will make an appearance in Episode 3. Perhaps on the Borealis???

Saying the resistance hired gordon from gman is just speculation, and cannot enter debate.

So the real question is, why didnt they ask him where he'd been all this time? And why didnt they ask why he hasn't aged etc etc?

(oh i know ... because gordon cant talk ....)

I was under the Impression the Dr. Breen hired the services of Gordon and GMan, for reasons of his own, gave him Gordon, but in the time or place that Breen had wanted. Thus, the Freeman can be a resistance fighter as GMan seems to want.

Maybe GMan told Eli that he was coming. I dont think so. I dont even think that the Resistance knew he was coming. Barney just spotted him didnt he?

When you get to BME Eli says something a long the lines of "man you haven't changed one iota, how do you do it?" Maybe him and the others just think Gordon aged well. I mean Gordon would only be in his forties at the time of HL2 if he wasn't put into stasis by the G-Man so it's not like he would be some balding, grey haired old man.

Then why does he want a 40 year old gordon to make babies with his 20-something daughter? (In ep2 he suggests she and gordon give him some grandkids now that the suppression field's down)

Oh, I see... so we are only allowed to debate what everyone already knows?

We gotta work with the facts! Well ... as we dont have many, i guess speculation is necessary. My bad.

Hi, MR Gordon isn't 40 years old.
The Beginning of H-L2 is just a few moments after the end of H-L1, in the Dimension where Gordon is, but 10 (Eli told us) to 20 years (if Alyx was a baby in H-L1 and now she's around 25 years old, it should be around 20 years) in our dimension, so Gordon is still 27 years old.

but 10 (Eli told us)

And when did he say this? Also, the Episode One website confirms it is nearly two decades. Most of us here assume its around 17 years or so, placing it around 2020.

The 10 years thing is from a cut speach that Eli was to give you. It's in Raising the Bar.

key word 'cut'
alyx was not a baby at black mesa
gordon is 40-something as far as people not held in stasis are concerned
biologically he is still 27
the time between hl1 and hl2 is most likely >10 years by the sheer fact that there are no children (assuming the supression field was put in place immediately after the seven hour war)

It would have to be more than ten years since most of the people we see in hl2 are either young adults or old and we don't see any teenagers now do we.

Obviously...

Not buying that... the only thing that is obvious from playing EP2 is that Gordon isn't the only person that the Gman has been manipulating.

I think he's been whispering things in certain people's heads about the 'free man' coming etc... that's why we have a mythical status between the citizens...

How exactly do you contact the g man to hire Gordon? I need to get my pay cheque off my old job... can I send gordon in? :p

Gordon's an amazing guy, he wants his grandkids to have good genes. ;)

Actually if you play EP1 and listen to what Alyx says as Dog pulls you out of the rubble, she says ' Its great to see you Gordon Dad said you wouldent be here''

To me that sounds like Eli knew that Gordon is shifting in and out of 'time and space' with G-Man because how did he (eli) know Gordon would not be found?

The resistance paid for him. Thats only conclusion to draw as G-man is accepting offers for his services. As to how the contact happens, who knows. If G-man wants someone to contact him I'm sure he knows how to make it happen. He made contact with Eli in Black Mesa didn't he? The resistance aren't surprised about his arrival at all. Think about it. If someone you knew disappeared one day never to be seen again and then suddenly reappeared, 20 year or so later, looking not a day older wouldn't you be just a bit surprised?

The only surprise they show is at the timing of his arrival at the train station:

Kliener: "Gordan? I expected more warning."

Barney: "You and me both, Doc."

They knew he was coming, they were only surprised at the timing of his arrival: he came earlier than they were expecting, Barney hadn't had time to work out how to get him out. Eli is not surprised to see him at all, he's surprised that he hasn't aged and he's obviously pleased to see him, but he's not surprised that he's suddenly appeared out of nowhere after 20 years. The only person to show any surprise at his re-appearance is Breen who's obviously not in on the deal. Eli was going to explain more about G-man to Gordan, but got killed.

She says "Gordan! Wait 'til I tell my father! He'll be so surprised he was certain we wouldn't find you!" He says: "Gordan? I don't believe it." He says it in such a way, it's not like "I can't believe you're still alive!" but "you're not supposed to be here" as Gordan had fulfilled his contract.

At least thats how it sounded to me.

I picture Alyx and Eli calling him Gordan, hehe that whould be a nice nickname. Sounds Russian.
