My friend makes a server in HL2DM, types status in console, both IP's listed do not work. So I need to know how to join his game by finding the IP

Type status in the console and it will look like this:

players : 1 (10 max)

The number in bold, italic and underline is the number you need.

When you get that number add it to your Steam Server list favourites, type "connect 82.136.36.19:27017" in the console or start the game with "+connect 82.136.36.19:27017" in the command line.

You said "both" IPs don't work... not sure what you're referring to if you're under the impression there's two.

Google: 'What is my IP address' or find it from http://bthornton.com/ip
And add :27015 onto the end of it (default port, i think it will try this port if none is supplied anyway.)

You will probably need to open a port on your router to allow the traffic through, try http://192.168.2.1/ depending on what router, this usually brings up a config page. Open up port 27015 as a UDP port and make it go to your internal IP address (might be the one that is comming up for you at the moment, ie 192.168.2.2.
