How do I get HL2 free when I bought an ATI card with a Dell?

Yup. A 9800PRO wouldn't have given you a voucher in the first place (which is what's in your system). The vouchers came with 9600XT and 9800XT cards.

Also, you'll have an OEM (ie unbranded) card - it was only certain board manufacturers (eg Sapphire or Asus) that opted to do the HL2 coupon, and that would have meant a slight price hike in the retail cost of the cards, and your system. Besides, the XT cards were all slightly more expensive than their non XT counterparts.

I cleverly tricked work into thinking I needed a Radeon 9600XT card for my new PC system. When it turned up with the voucher in the box, I accidently took the voucher home...Careless of me, I know ;)

well done Czrsink :D Remember to accidently mail the code on it to me.. i really need it for uh.. something... un-downloading-from-steam-related, ofcourse.

to go slightly off-topic, if enough vouchers were collated, couldnt they reverse engineer the algorithm and work out some unused keys? just a newb thought.

You're not qualified for the HL2 coupon.

Let me just repeat it for you.

The HL2 voucher was only included if you bought a 9600XT or 9800XT, retail.

Now since you, first of all, haven't even got a 9600XT or 9800XT, that directly disqualifies you. Second of all, you did not buy the card retail. You got the damn card in an OEM computer.

End of story.

Errm... you NEVER get coupons or keys, purple dinosaurs or whatever with the 9800 Pro's, just the XT series. So what's the problem here?
I didn't get one with my 9800 Pro, and I'm not entitled to it either.

Ermmm, I see all this talk about the 9800 Pro line not coming with the coupon... well my Hercules 9800 pro box is sitting right here... and I have a HL2 coupon.

Wow, this thread has gone on for quite awhile. Since every last one of us is an expert, let me add this: There were quite a few cards that came with the HL2 coupon. I personally got mine when I bought a 9800 Pro from Best Buy. There are also certain 9600's, such as the SE, that also came with the coupon. So, no, it wasn't just the 9600-9800xt's that were part of that promotion.

Secondly, it's doubtful that you will be able to receive a coupon with your Dell purchase. As others have said, the cards in Dell machines are OEM versions - made specifically for (and or by - sometimes) Dell. On the ATI HL2 site it says that
This offer does not apply to bulk OEM (White box) versions of the foregoing products, unless a Half Life 2 Activiation Key Coupon was included with the product.

Maybe vendors such as Voodoo PC or Alienware would have been kind enough to send you a coupon had you purchased a machine from them (hell, maybe if you got the Dell XPS, Dell would have), but with a Dimension 4600 you stand almost no choice.

Lastly, why bother posting and arguing with people on this board? You believe you deserve the coupon, so call Dell and/or ATI. No point convincing us that you should have the coupon - I'm not going to give you mine. Good luck with your endeavor, friend.

the only cards that had the free hl2 promotion were the xt cards.

This threads great.

Funniest thing is his dad got him a "buff" system and then he says he counts £30 as a lot of money...

oh the comdey.

yeah, what an stupid kid.

Bottom line: You don't get the voucher kid. You won't. You never will. No amount of bitching or reasoning will change that. Don't act like you are entitled to anything, especially how all this was given to you in the first place. Go out and buy HL2 like everyone else. It will be worth it.

You don't, you cheap punk. Go buy it like a good lil boy.

You needed to buy the card that you get in a box not in a comp from dell thats were you get the cupon for hl2 from :p so you will just have to buy it like the rest of us.
