Hello again,

I have one simple question about CS:S. How do I turn off the fog/dust in the map de_dust & de_dust2. I'm sure there is a command for it in the console just like CS 1.6.

Thanks ;)

I wish I knew the answer, that stuff bothers me and looks terrible. I think the map would look so much better without all of those smoke sprites everywhere

if it looks terrible for you we must be looking at different maps. it looks awesome. now u can complain it lags you or drops your fps, but looks terrible...come on now. u must have a poor video card or something....looks great to me

I agree with umop's. I think it look's terrible too... Maybe not TERRIBLE but I think it would be better without it. more crispy/colored texture... And no I don't have a poor video card... I'm playing at 1600x1200, 6xAA & 16xAF everything to maximum with an average of 80FPS. The game is looking damn great to me but it would be even better without the fog.

Wow it must look damned good at those settings

I have the same problem. Can't prove that it's the smoke clouds that kill my fps but my card is quite high-end (9800pro). But my processor is older than my sister (1.8ghz) ;) Which I guess can explain a lot in a way.

Has anyone tried this command?: r_rainsimulate 0 ... I'm at work and just reading around... thought this might help.

ah found another.. try this too: fog_enable 0

No, honestly, the little circlular smoke sprites on dust that create the "whitey foggy" feel to it doesn't really look too great. Have you seen the map without them in there? It looks like 9 times better!

Also, my PC is fine (A64 3200+, 6800gt, etcetc)

Isn't the distance fog in the dust maps a volume fog? Personally i think it's a great simulation of the dust heavy air you find in the middle east, just the right density to it. I think it adds to the realism if anything, adds to the 'atmosphere' hehehe.

fog_enable 0 for general fog.

r_drawparticles 0 = a cheat, but does take out the dust clouds on dust, which increased my fps by about five. It also takes out the clouds of debris when you shoot the ground (which, imo, are a nice effect).

I thought fog_enable didn't work? The thing about the volumetric fog is that the engine draws ALL of it at the same time (even the fog you're not supposed to see from where you are) & that eats resources. But only 5 fps? Well better than nothing I guess ;(

The five FPS saver was with regard to r_drawparticles = 0.

Thanks!!
r_drawparticles is the one I was looking for... Sad I can't use it in multiplayer :( it's much better without it!
