By reading the manual...

edit the shortcut (right click properties, type -console after hl.exe in the target line (C:\SIERRA\HALF-LIFE\HL.EXE -CONSOLE) then use the ~ key

Im on the office complex level near the end, in the elevator shaft, and cant seem to jump up for the last ladder, any hints ?

tilde or ` is what you want. Top left hand key underneath Esc and next to 1. You'll probubly need to enable it in the game by adding -console to the shortcut command line like bilsmaks said.

I couldnt get the ladder the first couple times... make sure your not holding the space bar when you hit, and wait as long as possible to jump.

The two button jump takes you right over there, make sure to save once you finally get it. you still have to climp up, watch a scientist fall to his death, etc, etc.
