How do you define a human?

I'd go with the fuzzy logic answer that you can't diffinitavely define anything. There are only varying levels of agreement. To a very small degree everything is human, however you and I probably fit very high on the human definition, maybe me more than you because you're just a bunch of words on a computer screen.

Anything that can seriously ask itself one simple question:

"Am I a human?"

this has got mee thinking. where would you go, if you were an alien, to study our race. How would you interact? apart from sending drones to spy, id probally post on forums, asking questions and stuff. Any of us could be an information seeking alien... The only person i can trust is sulkdodds, i know him personally. hey, wait... HE LOOKS LIKE AN ALIEN!!!!
AAAAAARRRGGHHHH we r being invaded!

I dunno, i guess if they could come here, it depends on what they wanted to do.

I suppose firstly they would send probes to our system, then come in ships. As for posting in forums, well they would need to come pretty close to earth otherwise the delay would be terrible. Since all extra terristrial objects in orbit of earth are monitered, they would need some amazing radar deflection, as well as something to hide them from SETI and all its radio telescopers and all seeing eyes. My guess would be that they would try to land somewhere remote and, if it were possible, blend in with humans. We are pretty diverse, so if they could get the look right, im sure they would be fine in a big city.

well i've finished my essay. 2200 words or so. Anyone's welcome to read it, just PM me. I must warn you though, it's pretty droll

You should not define a human by the color of their skin but by their attitude.
Something along those lines.

erm... lemme see if I get you on this. so if a black person is stood next to a white person identical in every aspect apart from colour of skin and obvious differences between the two races, are you telling me you dont 'define them' as different in any way?

attitude is 99% bullshit too... all in-place so you meet a woman and get some lovin.

so a baby isn't human?
a child with cerebral palsy?
etc.

and you can 100% proove that these two types of people are incapable of asking themselves this? remember not all communication is vocal ;)

ignoreent, selfish, self gratifying bastereds

self rightous, imcompetant fools who will trick themselves into beliveing that they are right, and everyone else is wrong, so long as the ends justifies their actions.

Yes, they're human. They will, given time, be able to ask the question. It doesn't have to be in words, anyway.

I probably should have said "Eventually seriously ask itself 'Am I a Human?'".

I suppose it should be extended by logical inferrence to also include beings directly related genetically to the question-askers, as well, in order to include vegetablised people and Dan Quayle.
