How does a mod get a big name?

I'm not going to try to make a mod or anything, but how does a mod team get a big name? How do they get to be well known, and if someone did start a mod, how would they get a big name.

Out it on a website... not much more, as people will gather around it like flies, if it's really good... of course he would have to keep updating it to keep the excitement at its peak etc....perhaps get some sponsored servers... dunno...

Um... mention it on forums. Let people know about it. Do what mod makers have done since modding time began...

Gradually you'll build up a community if the quality remains the same. Seems kind of obvious to me

By making a site, hosting it on a big site like fileplanet, 3dgamers, and such. By posting about it on sites, on forums, and so on, by not using the gay word "uber" to decribe it.....

I've done this for years. A good mod alone doesn't cut it.

You need to be able to explain whats different about your mod. You need some good art and a good webmaster/publicity dude. And a good mod is necessary in the long run.
