How does Half-Life 2 have you get on top of boxes?

I couldn't find any information on this, but I was hoping that some of you guys would know.
In some games such as Doom III, you could jump onto small boxes, but not big ones. If you have seen the Doom III marine, he looks pretty muscular and is probably capable of climbing a box, but the game doesn't have you do that. Instead, it has you go jump onto a smaller box and then onto the bigger box. Will Half-Life 2 be like this?
If so, what will climbing boxes and other objects be like? Will it be like Unreal 2's 'mantling'? Or will it be like as if they put some sort of invisible ladder and have you climb it the way you would climb a ladder in Half-Life 2?

I believe they said somewhere in the info from valve thread that there is no mantling. But in their immortal words "it could easily be modded".

Crouch-jump? That's what we did in Half-Life...

what's mantling?

my guess is it will be crouch jump.

it's crouch-jump. you would not believe the places you can get in CS:S...

oh, never seen that in an fps :p

It's mostly used is slower paced games. (Thief, I think Deus Ex had it, etc.)

this is Half-Life !! there will be no box climbing what so ever. you will have to jump on them.

then valve doesn't want you to get onto that box, obviously.
(maybe you could grab yourself with the gravity manipulator and throw yourself?)

lol that sounds a bit silly.. dunno why.. but it does.. :E

It was dx2 that had the mantling, with it being based on the unreal 2 engine and all.

It works in that by walking against the box and pressing jump i think and it then moves you up on to the box or ledge etc as opposed to jumping before you get to it.

Anyway in terms of HL2 I can't imagine that happening. HL and CS etc are they games they are because of the feel of the movement in my opinion. Countless games have come and gone since because they didn't feel right. I'm praying that HL2 has got it right again.

Do you guys remember that HL invented crouch jumping? They actually invented a lot of things for a FPS. I don't know of anyother game that implemented crouching, jumping, & strafing. not to mention the long jump feature. Then again I could be totally wrong.

HL2 didn't invent any new way of moving in the enviroment. Which is kinda sad. Grappling would have been really cool. The way Riddik does it works for me. Or something better.

I guess it's all PHYSICs and GRAPHICs these days anyway.

or realism...lol they've created the source...where's Neo when you need him?
